With Bill’s passing Ireland has lost another great former player. It was always such a pleasure to meet Bill & talk about old times. He was an absolute gentleman. My sincere sympathy to his family. Rest in peace Bill.
Sincere condolences to the Mulcahy family on your loss.
Great admirer of Dr Bill, I saw him play his first international against Australia 1958 at Lansdowne Road he marked the great late Nick Shadie Wallaby Captain. Nick had a very controversial appearance that day having given Noel Murphy a hard time, playing his first game for Ireland too. I very fortunately met Nick in Sydney in 1972 at racehorse stables where his racehorses were in training, and he told me he feared for his life that day, after the game, making his way through the crowd, from the Wanderer’s end of the pitch where the game ended, to the other end to the changing Lansdowne pavilion.
May Dr Bill Mulcahy RIP.

My sincerest condolences to Billy (and the entire family of Dr. Bill) on the sad passing of your dear dad. As a former player of Skerries RFC I had the privilege of knowing Dr Bill both during my playing days and on my visits back to Skerries. On those fondly remembered occasions he was always quick with a kind word and showed genuine interest in my rugby career in clubs around the country where I moved to follow my work. The last time I met Dr. Bill was at the Captain's where, among other things, he passionately extolled the benefits of daily swimming. He truly embodied the virtues of discipline and well-being and fully lived the phrase 'a healthy mind in a healthy body'. Above all he was always the gentleman, a stalwart held in the highest regard by all who knew him. Requiescat in Pace, Dr Bill.

I’ve just been told by a friend of the passing of Dr Bill Mulcahy. As a former team mate I’m saddened by his passing. Bill, or Wigs, as he widely known, was a distinguished rugby player and captain of Ireland. He was a true leader—calm, dedicated, inspiring with a warm personality. His manner, presence and play lifted those around him, both on and off the field. Respected by teammates and opponents alike, he led by example with skill, integrity and excellence. His legacy in sport and in life will endure. St Munchins, UCD, Munster and Ireland are proud of him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
Sincere condolences to all the Mulcahys on your loss.
My sympathies are with Bill's family at this time.

Dear Christine, Billy, Cara, Fiona, Michael and all the family,
We want to express our feelings to you for the great tribute to Bill with the Requiem Mass, the readings, music, words by the family and Fr Melvyn.
Though we obviously could not be present we were with you in spirit as we watched on the webcam.
It was good to have been able to spend some time with you all on Monday.
Our first meetings with Bill were, as with so many, when we were both in Aer Lingus. Then we became neighbours and friends here in our beloved Skerries. You are a lovely and loving family.
We are thinking of you all in these days-and for Bill:
"Ar measc na Naomh go raibh ag Bill."
Love to you all, Terry and Pat

An ever present in my rugby life, who's character represented the core values we cherish in the game. He gave us so much and meant so much more to us.
Fondly remembered for his genuine curiousity, reassuring words, a smile, a song and safe hands for a stitch or two.
The best and truly never forgotten.
