Deepest condolences on the untimely death of Colman, whose support and encouragement helped the Friends of Historic Rathdown to make St. Crispin's Cell, Greystones, a national monument and protect it for future generations.
I too was privileged to have had Dr Etchingham as a lecturer in Maynooth. I always enjoyed his lectures, in particular his debunking of myths and his dry understated sense of humour. RIP
I had the privilege of being a student of Dr Colmán Etchingham at Maynooth over ten years ago.

His lectures are ones that stay in my memory because of his vast and deep subject knowledge, his quiet and passionate enthusiasm in imparting this knowledge, and his unwavering interest and encouragement for all students who wanted to develop their critical thinking and understanding of the impact of the Vikings in Ireland.

A true gentleman. It is a great loss that he wasn’t able to enjoy more time.

My sympathies to Colmán’s wife, family, colleagues and other students who were privileged to have had the opportunity of attending his lectures in the NUI Maynooth Medieval Irish and Celtic Studies department.

Always a thorough gentleman in the most profound sense of the word . Many is the time he frequented my pub in Hacketstown and struck me as being highly intelligent and articulate and many is the jovial conversation we had . It was an absolute pleasure to have known him and may his beautiful soul rest peacefully amongst the angels in Paradise 🙏🙏🙏
