My sincere condolences to Owen and family on the recent death of Cyril, of which sadly I have only heard today. I remember Cyril with great affection, especially during his days as a student at UCD in the very early 1960s. I know that he now enjoys unity with the Divine, as Jesus prayed for his followers.
Sincere condolences to Owen, Joan and all the family on the sad passing of Cyril. May he rest in peace, Elizabeth, Jackie, Peter, Mairead and Kathleen (Mowlds)
Deepest sympathy to all Cyril's family. So sorry to learn of his death. Cyril was always kind - very kind to me when we moved to Belfield. Cyril regularly went out of his way to give me a lift home back in those early days. It was always a pleasure to meet him more recently in Super value in Churchtown where he had smiles and cheerful stories for many of us.
I have learned with great regret of the death of Dr Cyril M White whom I have had the honour of knowing and interacting with since the mid 'sixties. His contribution to the development of Irish Athletics at Association, Schools and University levels in terms of coaching, inspiring and officiating, particularly as a starter, has been colossal and he was a mine of information on the history of the sport. No more pleasant, diplomatic and helpful gentleman could one meet. Sincere condolences to Owen and the extended family. May his gentle soul rest in peace!
Sincere condolences to the family of Dr Cyril. May he rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to Owen and all the White family. May he rest in peace. I was sad to hear of Cyril's passing as I have very fond memories of him from UCD AC in late 80s and was pleased to meet him again at the 100 year event in 2022. Cyril brought gravitas to University Athletics events at that time but equally taught UCD AC members how to chop tomatoes etc as thinly as possible for sandwiches in order to maximise sales for fund raising during Belfield athletics events. A man of many talents!
Sincere condolences to Cyril's family, he was a great club man in his lifetime in Donore Harriers as well as an institution in the Irish athletics community - he will be hugely missed but has left a great legacy to the sport, RIP Cyril.
Dear Owen and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Cyril’s passing, and I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to you all at this difficult time.

I had the privilege of taking several of Cyril’s undergraduate courses in UCD a few years before he retired. He was always so supportive and approachable — a true gentleman. I particularly remember his research methods course in second year and how, in third year, he invited our little group to speak to his second-year class. It was a small gesture, but one that reflected his generosity as a teacher and mentor.

Cyril was a noble soul, and his kindness and wisdom left a lasting impression on many of us who had the good fortune to learn from him.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

With deepest sympathy,
Just how I fondly remember Uncle Cyril and his Billy Goat Gruff kisses growing up.

Sorry I couldn’t be there today, I have been thinking of you all. Xx
Sincere sympathy with Owen and family on the death of Cyril. We were colleagues for many years in UCD where we cooperated on a programme for American students called a Semester in Irish Studies in which Cyril was highly efficient and always friendly. May he rest in Peace .
Cyril arrived as a lecturer in social science at UCD when I was an undergraduate (more than half a century ago!), and I have very happy memories of his teaching, support and encouragement. In particular, I remember how he supervised a student research project in the Meath Gaeltacht - driving bunches of us to and fro and generally enjoying himself. Rest in peace, Cyril, and condolences to all the family.
To The White Family,

Cyril was a wonderful person whom I had the pleasure of first meeting in 1962 at an athletic meeting, and from thereon had a friendship, crossing paths in UCD.

His athletic knowledge was unparalleled and he was altruistic in sharing it ; a humble achiever who was admired by so many.

He will be sadly missed.
We were so sorry to hear of Cyril’s death and send our sincere sympathy to Owen and all his family. Cyril was a real gentleman and it was always a joy to be in his company he always had a great welcome when we met. May his gentle soul rest in Peace.
Sincere condolences Owen, Donna, Christopher and Amalia. As you know Owen Cyril was a supervisor, coach, mentor and friend to me. May he rest in eternal peace with Lil.
Owen, Donna, Christopher and Amalia sincere sympathy at this sad time. Losing such a larger-than-life character, in his extended family, in UCD and in Irish and world athletics, you have lots of wonderful memories of special times together to carry you through the months and years ahead. He always gave our father credit for his choice of sociology as his ultimate career which served him and generations of Social Science students so well afterwards! Reunited with Lil, Des, Madeleine and his parents, may he rest in peace in his new forever home.
Sincerest sympathies to Cyril's family and friends.
My sympathies to Cyril's extended family. He was a marvellous man with a lifelong passion for our great sport. He had a deep knowledge of it's history and of Donore Harrier's part in it.He recalled his first Donore training session as a 15 year old at Glenmalure Park in Milltown,Donore's summer training venue for many years. He spoke of meeting Eddie Hogan,Dick O Rafferty and Tommy Hayward and their lifelong friendships.Cyril was always available to offer advice and coaching to our athletes. He attended all our occasions and was President from 1999 to 2002.He was the most wonderful company.May Cyril rest in peace.
Very sorry to hear of Cyril's passing. Condolences to Owen and family. It was a privilege to have known Cyril from early 1980s at UCD AC and later at Donore Harriers. A true gentle man and wonderful company . A great servant to athletics. Rest easy .
Sincere condolences on the loss of Cyril. I remember his visits to see May and Timmy at my Mum and Dad's home (Eileen and Noel Delany). He always talked about his wonderful son and his wife Donna. May Cyril rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Owen and family. Your Dad was my colleague when I joined the (then) Department of Social Science UCD: (Social Policy, Social Work and Sociology) in 1973. We shared a special time in the history of ucd. May you be comforted by the support of family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.
Cyril was an undergraduate teacher in UCD and later a valued colleague. He was always in good form and always on for a good chat. My condolences to you Owen and your family. May Cyril rest in peace.
As relatively new neighbours on Braemor Road, it was always a pleasure to have a chat with Cyril. He will be sadly missed by all in Churchtown.
Dear Owen
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Memories of the athletics, UCD track and of course your family trip to UCLA when he introduced you to Ed Moses. He gave us a lot of time and coaching and I remember him very fondly.

Very sorry to read of Cyril's passing. My deepest sympathies go to Owen and all the White family. I had many enjoyable days while assisting him on the start line at athletic meetings. We also had many serious discussions outside Supervalu on athletic topics. A great volunteer, many he rest in peace.
Very sorry to hear about your Dad Owen.
May he rest in peace
Sorry to hear this sad news. I last met Cyril at my mother’s funeral and he was in the most wonderful form despite the occasion, my mother would have laughed. In SuperValu one always knew when Cyril was shopping - you could hear him talking 4 isles away. Always engaging and full of love of life. He kept his house exactly as the love of life Elizabeth kept it. Everything in its place. A quietness now decends on Churchtown as the last of the original inhabitants now departs.
I have known Cyril since my days in St. Mary's College Rathmines, where he coached us in all aspects of athletics. He had ties with UCD athletics club Trinity College and Donore Harriers His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious, and will be remembered very fondly by all who knew him. May he RIP
My deepest condolences to Owen and the family. I have very fond memories of Cyril growing up doing athletics in the 80's and being a UCD student and active in the UCD AC in the early 90's. He was a great coach and leader. He coached my father, Harry. I'll never forget the letter he wrote while he was president of the IUAA to congratulate UCD on hosting the 1992 IUAA XC championships in Belfield. He was also UCD AC's honorary president at the time and he wrote the letter to himself! He read the letter out at our committee meeting congratulating the organizing committee (which I was part of). To me this was quintessential Cyril. Formal, loving the pomp, but with a heart of gold and always full of encouragement.
Rest in Peace Cyril, thank you for your kindness, advice and encouragement down the years. So many fond memories of time spent chatting on Belfied track. The best of days.
UCD AC

Cyril was a tremendous support to me in my research on the Irish at the Olympic Games. It is no exaggeration to say that my most enjoyable and valuable days were spent with Cyril, Larry Ryder and Ronnie Long. What a get-together the trio will be having up above this morning.
