Sincere sympathy on your recent bereavement. Apart from knowing your Dad affectionately as Dano while in UCC, I used to see him with your mom and yourselves as a family regularly at St Augustine's 11.15 a.m Sunday Mass. We also met in the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen during the summers. His warm encouraging smile is my abiding memory of him.

As Lecturer , subsequently Reader in Pharmacology , Dr "Dano" O'Mahony ensured that my generation of Cork Medical Graduates qualified with a thorough knowledge of that most important subject.

His legacy is also noteworthy as he was one of a pioneering generation when the pace of discoveries and developments in Pharmacology accelerated.

As Dean of the Faculty of Medicine , he lead Cork Medical School at a time of considerable change.

My condolences to all the O’Mahoney family from an UCC graduate whose life was influenced to reinforce my ambition to develop new therapeutics by Interactions with Dr O’Mahoney at UCC in the mid sixties. As a result I have been fortunate to see 23 compounds I worked on, approved for marketing in the USA and most other countries. Dan O’Mahoney instilled his ethical and data driven focus on drug development in me, which I carried with me through my professional life. Even today 55 years later, I can still recall his lectures. Gone, but never forgotten as long as I live. Rest In Peace for a life well lived.

Dan was a superb teacher in the tradition of classical pharmacologists (even as a 20 year old I enjoyed his dry wit and anecdotes), a generous and supportive colleague in later years and at all times a gentleman.
