Eileen was a brave and kind woman- a life lived in service to others. Rest in Peace.
Our Aunt Eileen made a huge impression on me with all of her world travels, and work accomplishments. I always thought what an amazing interesting life! and hearing the stories was the best. We kept in contact over the years ,and she was even considering joining me in India when I was working there , but couldn't quite coordinate with a tour of Lorde's happening after a side trip to Iceland!! I imagine that happened a lot for her. She was a remarkable lovely kind person, who will be deeply missed by her family in Nfld.
We have so many fond memories of my sister Eileen Duffy, including attending the same boarding school as my wife, Eileen Duffy. Never suspecting they'd end up sisters-in-law. Ironically, they both went to medical school and both became Dr. Eileen Duffy, making things slightly confusing. We followed her medical career thoughout her time in Africa and the Biafran War, North Carolina and Florida.
As a member of the medical missionaries, she worked in Nigeria and endured the rigors of going through the Biafran War. She was remarkable as the only Medical Doctor in the entire hospital for years. From delivering babies to removing appendixes. Her career eventually took her to North Carolina at a late stage in her life where she did her residency in Psychiatry and finally got a driver's license. From NC, she moved to Florida where she worked in a mental health facility. She returned to Dublin where she worked at Central Mental Hospital at end of her prolific career.
We looked forward to her visits and we all enjoyed her fascinating stories.
My sister will be sadly missed by myself and our family.
Adrian & Eileen Duffy
So sorry to hear that Eileen has passed away R I P. We knew Eileen a long tíme, she was a lovely person. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Though it’s been a few years since we last saw each other, I remember my Aunt Eileen with great fondness. She was a kind and compassionate person who truly cared for others. I often think of the stories she shared about her years in Africa—how deeply she connected with the people there and how passionately she gave of herself. Her gentle spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression, and she will be remembered with love.
On behalf of my mother Mrs Philomena McCormack (nee Canavan) and family, sincere sympathies to Eileens family , friends and carers.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Our sympathy and prayers to Eileen's brother Adrian and the extended family on the death of Eileen RIP. Many of us remember her well from her time with us, she was always a kind gentle person. May her noble and gentle soul now rest in Heavenly peace.
I had the pleasure of working with Eileen in the Central Mental Hospital. It was a joy to work with a lady who showed such amazing compassion as she cared for some of the most difficult patients in our care. Her compassion and empathy made those around her want to be better. My deepest condolences to her family.
