My sincerest condolences to you and your family on your very great loss, Helen. I got to know Eoin when he was supervising at Knowth, and later when we tutored side-by-side in UCD in the late 80s/early 90s. Although our paths rarely crossed over the years after that, I really enjoyed his company every time I met him. He was exceptionally friendly, and he always seemed to have a smile at the ready. I know that will be an abiding memory for many.
Dear Helen, and their two sons, as well as his wider family. The Irish archaeological community has lost a significant expert in prehistory. Not only that, but Eoin also had a great sense of humour which I'll also remember.
May he rest in peace.
May he rest in peace.
Helen, Niall, Connor and all of Eoin's family, friends and colleagues in Maynooth and beyond - I am thinking of all of you and your profound loss during this difficult time. Eoin was deeply kind, generous, and supportive to me, just as he was to the very many others he mentored throughout the years. All of us gained so much from his guidance and encouragement. He will be greatly missed.
I'm so sorry to hear of Eoin's passing. He was a lovely person and his archaeology lectures in Maynooth were a highlight of my week when I studied there.
Deepest condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in peace.

It is with great sadness that we hear of Eoin's passing. Sincere condolences to Helen and all Eoin's family at this sad time. It was always a great pleasure to have Eoin visit the site at Knowth with his students from Maynooth over the last number of years, we all listened intently as he shared his knowledge and his memories of the time he had spent excavating on site and we were always fortunate to hear something new and interesting. He will be fondly remembered by all the Guide staff at Knowth and Bru Na Boinne.
Many condolences to Eoin's family. It was an absolute honour and privilege to have worked with Eoin. I looked up to him immensely. He will be very missed. Xo
Thinking of you Helen, Connor and Niall, as you lay Eoin to rest. As many will recount, he was so kind, approachable and generous with his time and knowledge, and he always cut a dash on site visits with his dapper scarves! He will be dearly missed in the archaeological community.
I am deeply saddened that Eoin has passed. He was always so generous with his time, knowledge and good humour. Condolences to Helen and family.
So sorry today to hear the sad news about Eoin. He was a wonderful man, so generous with his time and knowledge. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to Helen and family.
Sincere condolences to Helen and family, and to all Eoin's wider family and friends on his sad passing. A legend of Irish archaeology, much renowned within our world, which will be much the poorer with his loss.
So sorry to hear of Eoins passing. My deepest sympathies to Helen and family.
On behalf of UCD Archaeology staff and students
Eoin was one of the most pre-eminent archaeological scholars of his generation. He completed a BA in Archaeology in UCD (1977), an MA (1979) and a PhD on early prehistory in north Munster (1989). He worked as a tutor and lecturer in UCD, directed the Wicklow Archaeological Survey, published by NMS, and was one of the first Project Directors in the Discovery Programme, leading the highly successful North Munster Project from 1991. He also became programme director of Irish Cultural Heritage at Maynooth University with Dr Mary Leenane.
He was a leading expert on the Irish Bronze Age, a mentor to many of us lucky enough to work with him, and an adept and warm teacher in his university at Maynooth. He was also a generous supporter of younger archaeologists in the field. In recent days, Irish archaeologists of all generations have expressed their sense of loss, and also their gratitude for his generosity and inspiration. There will be much more to be said about his career and his huge contribution to Irish archaeology and the European Bronze Age.
Eoin was a kind, gentle and generous person, he will be much missed and long remembered. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his loved ones, his beloved wife Helen, and his two sons Connor and Niall, and all his family and many friends.
