Dr. Eoin Mc Carney

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Eoin’s passing. He came across as a very intelligent, capable and lovely person. My deepest condolences to his family on this terrible loss.

I am shocked to learn of Eoin's passing. We met previously at his grandmother Ita's funeral in Dublin. He had a lovely, vibrant personality, full of energy, sharp intellect, and a joie de vivre which left a marked impression. Eoin was one of a kind, ferociously driven, fantastically intelligent and wonderfully kind. I had the joy of getting to know Eoin through undergrad and postgrad studies in Trinity College. He was so bright, so funny and the life of the party. He always made time for his friends, he lived life with a passion that was inspiring and his nature drew people towards him. A cheeky smile, a pint after a hard day in the lab, a sing-song on the way home, Eoin will be greatly missed. RIP

My deepest condolences to Eoin's family. I remember Eoin from his TCD Chemistry days. He was a lovely guy. On the annual Chemistry Pitch and Putt outing, he would treat us to a song on the way home on the dart, "There's only one Patsy Greene"...Eoin would encourage us to join in "There's only one Patsy Greene" we would sing.
[Patsy is the person who organised this great day out and would be on the dart with us.]
For those of us that also remember the shoe etc. part of the song 😀.... "There's only one Patsy Greene".

I had the honor of working with Eoin on establishment of the Extraneous Matter Laboratory in Westport. During this time, I built a lasting friendship with Eoin. He was the quintessential professional, always striving to do his best. He was so personable and easy to talk with. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to hang out with him outside of work, but he always told me how much he loved kayaking, and spending time with his friends and family. I will sincerely miss him. I met Eoin in the TG Group at Trinity College when I was doing my Erasmus traineeship and he was doing his PhD. He made me feel welcome from my first day and we became friends while working and hanging out together in Dublin. Though I was only lucky enough to spend a short time with Eoin, I have wonderful memories of our time together. I am deeply saddened that the world has lost someone so brilliant and kind and my deepest condolences go to Eoin's family.
