I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the Callanan family on the death of your dad, Finbar.
He gave great inspiration and encouragement to female engineers, to the development of their careers and their involvement in the Institution and encouraged the development of rural Institutional Regions and had no hesitation in travelling to support them.

Dear Callanan family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Finbar. He was always entertaining and great company when John and Carmel had people in for an evening and was always generous with his professional advice. One such piece of advice was given to my class of '93 Electronic Engineering in DIT Kevin Street, which has always stuck with me. When Dad died, he wrote the most beautiful letter to us with reminiscences of how he and Dad had studied German together in the late 1960s, in the hope of 'big jobs in Europe' when we finally were accepted to the EEC. A wonderfully pleasant gentleman. No doubt you are all very proud of the man he was. May he Rest in Peace with the wonderful Maureen.
Colm Hagan, Butterfield Park
