My sincere condolences to Aisling, François, Jean-François, Mathilde and all the Pittion family on the sad passing of Dr. Jean-Paul Pittion. Our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. May he rest in peace. Lots of love from Steve, Shahada and Sofia.

So sorry to hear this sad news. He is etched on my memory as a true scholar, talking intensely even with first-year undergraduates and communicating how important the ideas we were working with were. He shared his gifts freely with many generations of students. Such a sad loss.

Another of the great scholars of Trinity has gone. I offer my sincere condolences to all his family.
He taught my wife, Marion, some of her French and when we organised a bike trip along the Loire Valley we arranged to meet Jean-Paul over dinner at a restaurant in Tours, of his choosing.
We didn’t tell him that two other of his former students would be there also. We had a great evening.

I have only just heard this sad news. I worked with Jean-Paul on Huguenot and French Revolution conferences and we’ve met up regularly since. Penetrating intellect, always ready with advice and sources on French history, great sense of humour and infectious laugh. He will be sadly missed. Sincere condolences to the family.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jean-Paul. He was not only a brilliant scholar who made important contributions to the history of the book, but also an inspiring mentor who profoundly shaped part of my academic journey, thanks to his limitless intellectual curiosity.
Beyond his own field of research, his James Joyce reading group was a testament to his passion for literature in all its forms, and will be fondly remembered.

As a humble homage to his memory, I listened today to a Pavan by Thomas Tomkins, reflecting on the many lectures and seminars he gave on the Renaissance. My thoughts are with his family during this time of sorrow.
