I wish to express my sincere condolonces to the Hannon family on your sad loss. I worked with John in UCC as a student and interacted with John right throughout his career. Thanks to Johns personality, these were always such dynamic, fun and productive interactions. John will be sadly missed.

I was so very sorry to hear about John, he was part of our slightly wild UL Industrial Chemistry class (1987 to 1991) and was always good fun to sit with and chat over numerous coffees in the canteen, John was also a seriously good disco dancer and used to to put us lads whose idea of dancing was standing in one spot and swaying, to shame! Goodbye John, I hope you are smiling and dancing where you are today.

Sincere sympathy to the Hannon family. I first got to know John as a student when he came to study with me in Teagasc Moorepark as a PhD student, I later knew him as a colleague when he worked in Moorepark and most importantly I knew him as a friend. He was always extremely enthusiastic, energetic and had a broad view of science. As his career developed in France, Denmark and subsequently back in Ireland he stood out as a scientist who could bridge the gap between the immediate needs of industry to deliver practical applications and those of the research scientist who wanted to understand exactly what and how things work. On his return visits to Moorepark he had lots of friends to visit and no matter how busy his schedule he always made time for these friends. He will be greatly missed.
