Dr. John Kelly

We are so very sorry to hear of Dr. Kelly’s passing. He looked after both of us for many years and also our two children. Dr. Kelly had a lovely gentle manner and was very engaging. We had absolute trust in his opinions and he was always correct in his diagnoses. We hoped that he would never retire. Dr. Kelly will be remembered very fondly by our family. May he rest in peace.

Condolences to Dr Kelly's family and his former colleagues. I had been a patient for over 40 years when I lived in Howth, and he was always encouraging, and an excellent GP / scientist. Even when I attended as a student he charged me the minimum. When I was doing a term paper on medical issue in the mid 90's I asked him about a topic. He used to take out the index card notes and then moved onto his laptop in the old practice building. RIP.

I was very sad to hear of the recent passing of Dr. Kelly, he was such a lovely, friendly, and a very talented doctor, he had such a wide range of medical knowledge, and a very wide range of interest in SO many subjects. We are very sorry to learn of Dr John Kelly’s passing. He was our gp for many of the important early years of our marriage, a brilliant intuitive doctor who managed one of our children so brilliantly through seven years of nocturnal convulsions, for which we are eternally grateful. We first came to know Dr. John Kelly when he returned to Dubln in the mid sixties. He worked in the dispensary system where Síle worked at the time. Soon afterwards he started his own practice in Sutton & our family were among his first patients. We experienced his empathetic caring(including two after hours house visits) from that time until he retired. He was a progressive GP with expertise in many aspects of modern medicine. His literary talents, combined with his medical knowledge, is evident in the book he published on his retirement.

I'm so very sad to hear of Dr Kelly's passing. Like so many, I have memories of his kindness, care and humour since I was a child. My mother used say that when she had a very young family, he would find reasons not to charge her. My deepest sympathy to Vincent and all the family and friends on your loss.

Dr Kelly was our doctor as children/teenagers and he was always so kind and generous with his time. He was very kind to our whole family. Thinking about his family at this sad time. The lovely memories everyone has of your wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend etc will give you great comfort at this time.

Dr. Kelly was an amazing doctor and so knowledgeable. He was my doctor from when I was a kid until he retired. Some of my earliest memories are his house visits when i had chicken pox as a young child. Times have changed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sad time.

John was not only a very dear friend, he was also a great medical guru, gifted with an unerring swift diagnostic and original solutions to our problems. Our lives as a family were charmed by years of his and Marcelle's friendship, hill walking around the Wicklow mountains at first, then holidaying together in the Alps, Normandy or Vendée, having great fun sharing meals with mutual friends and so on. We have missed his warm company since he moved to Mauritius, but will always cherish the memories of all the times we were together.

What a great friend and an extraordinary doctor. His knowledge of medicine was vast and he was never afraid of challenging some of medicine’s accepted practices.
We had so many good times together with him and his family..I particularly enjoyed playing golf with him in Portmarnock though I did have to point out to him that he should use his sand wedge in the bunker rather than throwing the ball out with his hand! Such fun. He will be sorely missed.

John and Marcelle were great friends of our dad and mum, Brian and Mary Daly. John locumed for dad in the 70s before he set up his own practice in Sutton. John’s brother Colin later became dad’s partner in Griffith Avenue for thirty years. Sad to hear of the passing of a lovely gentleman and great doctor. He was my doctor from when I was a child and then to my children. They often talk about the time he lined them up side by side to sing "Old McDonald" Then got on his knees, syringe behind him so when they sang "E I E I O" one of them got a jab. R.I.P. Doc
