Very sorry to hear this sad news. Dr John Gilmartin was a wonderful gentleman, and a good neighbour. Condolences to his family.
How sad . John was a bringer of joy and knowledge to every one who meet him.
I so enjoyed are monthly Sunday dinners in his beautiful flat . He did the cooking and I brought the wine. Witty conversation and gentlemen Dublin gossip. I loved listening to his discussions on his most intersting family history , the gilmartins, the Maiben family and the historic Chileal connections.

Devasted to hear the news, I really thought John would live forever, he was larger than life itself. No more companionable discussions about our shared love of Italy, no more setting the DIT and the world to rights. So sorry not to be able to speed you on your way on Tuesday, John.

I was sorry to hear of Dr. Gilmartins passing. He was an inspiring and wonderfully knowledgable lecturer during my time at DIT in the 90s. I never fail to think of him when looking at Italian art or seeing the blue and gold of lapis lazuli. Rest in Peace, a true gentleman.
Deepest sympathy to you all. We are away st present. John was a very special man. Taken for granted by me but part of my life always. Rest in peace John
