As classmates in UCC we always enjoyed Kieran's company - even more so when reminiscing at our several class reunions since graduation. Is trua nach mbeidh sé linn in Adare next month for our 55th Anniversary gathering.

Kieran was a highly respected paediatric nephrologist and his many patients benefited from his clinical expertise. Although retired for many years he remained, one might say, 'addicted' to medicine; he would willingly share the latest developments with any willing listener (medical or otherwise!) When speaking with Kieran recently he informed me, with no little regret, that he had just discontinued his lifelong subscription to the New England Journal of Medicine.

Such sad news, I knew Kieran from childhood -our parents were friends- and for a few weeks of a distant summer, I enjoyed the wonderful and musical Hayes hospitality. We met again in Medical School, and went our separate ways on qualifying. At the last class reunion after reminiscing about boyish days in Croom we planned to meet. It never happened!

My sincere condolences to Carmel, Plunket, John, Enda and extended Hayes family. Kieran was a great family friend full of knowledge. Kieran had fantastic stories and great adventures over the years. He adored Medicine. I particulary remember when we were in Boston for his 70th and the joy he had of meeting up with old colleagues. He loved reminiscing about the good times he had there. May Kieran rest in peace Amen.
