Sincere condolences to Pat and family on the sad passing of Marie. She was an esteemed professional colleague, a proactive member of the Library Association of Ireland and a valued friend for many years. I got to know Marie well during a visit to Seattle some years ago, when we were both invited as guests of the local Library Association for a week of sharing knowledge about our respective library systems and networking with a view to future co-operation across the oceans. Marie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

My sincere sympathy to Pat and all of Marie’s family on their great loss. Marie was a very good friend and colleague in CONUL and the Irish Library Association. I recall with pleasure a visit to American University libraries. We had bought tickets online for the Metropolitan opera to see La Traviata! We even spoke to Renee Fleming the American Diva who played Violetta at the Met in a nice Italian restaurant afterwards!

She always took the time to come to past colleagues removals after their deaths, where I met her and had many a chat. She left a legacy in the library when she retired. I was shocked to the core to hear of Marie's sudden and untimely passing. My sincerest condolence to Pat, Kit and Pat Junior, to her sisters Rita and Claire, her brother James and the wider Crowe and Reddan families.
I worked with Marie from 1990 until 2005. She was transformative in her vision, emphasising quality and excellence of services for staff and students alike. Her 'can do, will do' attitude saw the Library become the hub of the University campus. She was instrumental in acquiring important archival collections, such as the John McGahern archive, during her tenure. I was delighted when the University recognised her enormous contribution by bestowing an Honorary Doctorate on her in 2023 and was honoured to be a guest at the conferring. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
