To the Coughlan family.

Sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved father. He was a lovely man and a credit to the medical profession. I knew him for many years. He was very supportive to me when I returned from doing GP training and work in the United Kingdom.

I aways enjoyed meeting him. He had a very relaxed manner and a kind disposition. He will be missed by all who knew him, including patients, colleagues, friends and family.

May he have a deserved Rest in Peace.

Michael coughlan wasn't just one of a kind he was also one of life's very special people.In1994 the practice nurses held their first AGM in the ardilaun in Galway I was chairperson at the time.The organisation had no money at all but we needed a special guest luckily Michael was chairperson of icgp at the time and we invited him he spoke about the asset practice nurses were to go..after that he played the piano and sang with us all till the small hours..rip Michael a truly decent man

I was a patient of Dr. Coughlan’s and always found him to be a friendly and wonderful doctor, deeply respected for his kindness, warmth and dedication to his patients. To Rosemary and all of Michael’s family, sincere sympathies to you on Michael’s sad passing. What an absolute gentleman. He was my GP when I was in college and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Later he was a terrific colleague. He also gave me a tough lesson on how to play in the wind and rain in Enniscrone, when I went home with my tail between my legs! He will be sadly missed. RIP

I’ve only become aware this week that Michael has died from meeting his cousin in a professional capacity.
I immediately remembered how he had inspired and impressed me as a medical student on a GP attachment with him back in the 1980s.
After qualifying and several years of hospital medicine I was fortunate to train in a GP practice with doctors of a similar compassionate mindset to Michael and became involved in GP training and ICGP as he had been.
He was my first inspiration in his care of, and respect for patients.
He was always very highly regarded by his medical colleagues, including my parents in law who were his patients for all their years in Galway. R.I.P

I was shocked, on my return to Galway, to learn of the death of Michael. I was most fortunate to have had him as my Doctor from those earliest days, long ago, when he first set out on his chosen vocation. For vocation it was. His meticulous professionalism - which seemed to be imbued with an innate sixth sense - was matched by kindness and empathy for the patient sitting in front of him. His sense of humour was never far away. He was a Colossus of a man – a truly great Doctor, and above all a kind, gentle, and caring person.

Just saw this today and i am extremely sorry to hear of Dr couglans passing
He was my gp for years and the best and so sooo kind and understanding
I was sitting outside a bar in leenane last summer and I heard his voice as he was having a coffee with friends
Said to myself i know that voice and when i turned it was Dr coughlan
I went over to say hello !
He knew me straight away and we had a lovely chat and a laugh !
