I was very sad to hear about the death of this thorough gentleman.
I first met Noel, when I began researching in the NLI. in the late 1970s. He was always welcoming, kind and generous in imparting his vast knowledge.

I didn't know Noel very well, but we had some enjoyable chats over the years, and I knew him as a very kind, obliging, and generous man.
My last contact was an unsolicited copy from Noel of his lovely book on Kerry maps, which I will treasure all the more now.
