Noel was a gentleman. He always had a kind word and a smile, and was generous with his time. Even years after I had graduated from St. Pat's, Noel still had time to help me out with letters of reference when I needed them. Thank you for everything Noel.

Attending his philosophy lectures in Carlow was a pleasure and a true education. It was a privilege to study and learn with him as a guide. He contributed enormously to so many peoples lives.

Very very sorry to hear the sad passing of Noel.I knew Noel from the time he was going to Caragh school many years ago.But have not seeing him from the time he moved from Thomas town.I always asked his sister Caroline when I would see her how he was going.He was a pure gentleman and always had a smile on his face.He will be sadly missed by us all and all who knew him.Our sincere condolences to his wife Kate mother Nuala father Bill sister Caroline and all the Kavanagh family at this sad time.May Noel rest in peace with all who is gone before him XX.Very sorry I could not make the funeral but I got it all on the Webcam.

I am so very sorry for the loss of Noel, I may have only known Noel for a short time as my supervisor, but the depths of his knowledge, the pure quality of his character and sincere wonder being in his company, along with the deep love for his wiife radiated from him like the brightest star.

I was shocked to hear of Noel's death. Noel and Kate were very kind to invite me to their home in Athy nearly two decades ago. I remember Noel for his aliveness, curiosity and kindness. His untimely passing is unfair.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Noel. He showed us all how to live authentically as he did every day, he lived for Philosophy and loved life and it showed in his lectures and his encounters with everyone. I personally loved Philosophy before I met Noel but he gave me the confidence to pursue it when I felt I wasn't good enough and for that I am forever grateful to him. I was also lucky to have met Noel again after I had graduated college, he shook my hand and he remembered me as we discussed Philosophy before we parted ways for what was our final encounter. I'll always remember Noel as being responsible for some of my fondest memories of College. I want to send my condolences to his wife Kate whom he clearly adored and his wider family and many friends, we'll always remember Noel for the ways in which he touched all our lives. Noel will always live on in those of us who were lucky enough to know him.

He was a wonderful teacher and he always left us with so much to think about after each lecture. I think Noel Kavanagh is the only man I have ever met who would regularly speak of his tailor. A man of impeccable taste, from his Vespa, to his hats, to his suits, shirts and ties, to his incredible knowledge of music. Noel could point you to an obscure album by Miles Davis the way an evangelical preacher might direct you to the right chapter and verse in the Book of Ecclesiastes. Like the philosopher he was, Noel was all about attention to detail. One of life's genuine characters, your presence, wit and wisdom will be sorely missed in the corridors of Carlow College where you inspired an entire generation - may you rest in peace, Noel.

Deeply saddened to hear of Noel’s passing. He was one of the most engaging and encouraging people I’ve ever encountered in the education system and every one of his lectures, and the feedback I received for all of his assignments, reflected this. Each and every time, he was extremely complementary in his assessment of my projects. Also, outside the lecture hall, he was always so cordial and it was a pleasure to have a conversation with him.
