I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Petrina.
My deepest and sincerest condolences to her beloved children, grandchildren and all the Keane and Fitzgibbon extension families.
Petrina and I studied medicine together at UCD and graduated in 1968.
We shared many study groups together and spent three months as student residents in the National Maternity Hospital where we shared an apartment together with her cousin Mary Lavelle Gavin.
She was an exceptionally kind and caring person. As well as that she was full of fun and good humour.
My last meeting with Petrina was at a memorial Mass in Dalkey for Dr Philomena Lavelle . It was shortly after she lost her beloved husband Ignatius and she was heartbroken.
She is now reunited with him in Heaven.
And, as they both did in life , they will continue to watch over all of you.
She will be very sadly missed

One of the very few positive outcomes of orthopedic adventures which befell Petrina and I was our meeting up in St Luke's.

A friendship was born. I cherished it and will miss it hugely.

I learned too late of Petrina's death to attend her Mass or reposing at home.

Margaret and I extend our deepest condolences to Petrina’s family: Delores, Barbara,Sarah,Michael and John + all her grand children each of whom she adored, to her close friend, Michelle and to all her extended family. Petrina was a treasured friend of mine for the past 44 years. She was a wonderful person and a lady of the first order. I first met her in the early eighties when on my return from LonIdon and was appointed Psychiatric tutor to the nursing school at St Loman’s Hospital Dublin & she was young and very glamorous consultant Psychiatrist. I attended some of her ward rounds and discovered that not only was she an en an excellent doctor but also a brilliant clinicial teacher.
for this reason, I thought she would be a wonderful lecturer to my post-graduate students and so, without hesitation, she agreed to lecture in psychiatry. Generosity was a key facet of Petrina’s personality and when offered a lecture fee, she declined, and decided to do all the lectures Pro Bono. Needless to say, the students passed the final exam in psychiatry with flying colours!
Petrina had a warm personality, a sharp intellect,and a wonderful caring & empathetic character. She was determined and above all Resilient to the core. Her untimely departure leaves a huge void in the lives of her beloved family and all those who had the good fortune of knowing her. Gone but never forgotten.
May Her Gentle Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
