So sorry to learn of Dr O'Hanlons passing I was on holiday when he passed. Fond childhood memories of Dr. O'Hanlon in Carrickmacross and again in Donegal when they used to visit on hols. He was a kind and gentle man and will be missed by all.

It was with regret to learn of the passing of the late Dr. Rory O Hanlon a very sincere gentleman who was very dignified and working for the betterment of his patients as a Dr and in his political career as a Minister in Dail Eireann he certainly helped everyone in Cavan/Monaghan and across Ireland South and North even after he retired. Despite that, Rory was always ready to engage in constructive discussion and friendly conversation. His calm, sense of propriety and humour never failed him, whether as Minister or Opposition TD. Teresa and Rory were treasured friends of Gene and myself. That is a wonderful memory. Gene often reminisced about canvassing for and with Rory in the undulating drumlin country of Cavan-Monaghan. Rory was one of a kind, unassuming but quietly confident, always courteous and helpful, imbued with a genuine commitment to public service, a man of good Christian values and integrity, with a dedication to the betterment of our Island and people. Like many colleagues I was privileged to call him a friend, from the time he provided financial assistance and encouragement to us to reopen the District Hospital as a voluntary Community Hospital in New Ross back in the eighties to many years later collaborating with him on family and life issues in the Oireachtas. After his long and fruitful life his legacy will live on as an example to all.
