I have very fond momories of my late Dad always talking about The SeanMurphy Final of 1959 and bring me home a crepe Kerry hat from that match which I wore with pride until it fell apart. What a legend.

To Margaret, Anne and Dan, My sincere condolences in the loss of Sean. My mother Betty Murphy Caporale was a cousin of Sean’s. I have fond memories of Sean when him came to the states and visited with his Murphy cousins in Springfield, Mass. He also came to see my sister Liz and I at the train station in Dingle with Margaret. Which we loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.

To Seán’s beloved Margaret & sister Anne
It was our honour to have known Seán for over 20 years in Tralee.
He was always so engaging, we loved chatting with him, he was so knowledgeable.
In recent years as my Dad’s health declined, Seán never failed to enquire about him & was always genuinely interested.
Dad often recounted in awe stories of Seán’s prowess on the GAA pitch.
My father passed away last week one day before Seán . May they both rest peacefully.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy on the death of Sean to his widow Margaret, his sister Anne and the extended Murphy family.
I am sure that, now as Sean has taken leave of our beloved Kingdom of Kerry, he has already been warmly welcomed by all those of his family, teammates, mentors and followers who have gone before him and now are in our heavenly kingdom, up above.
As a teenager growing up in Listowel and avid follower of Kerry, I was delighted to have been able to attend both, semi-final vs Dublin and the All Ireland vs Galway in 1959. As this my first time in Dublin and my first time in Croke Park, memories of those are deeply ingrained in my mind.
The artistic tussle at midfield in the semi-final between Micko Connell and Des Foley and the titanic clashes between teak tough Tom Long and Lar Foley stand out, however what remains most is flawless All Ireland final exhibition of real football skill which was performed by Sean that day. On that occasion he became a God, like the Gods of ancient Greece, from been a mere mortal.
I presented Sean with a reference book on Kerry football, 36 And Counting, at his home in Riverside around 2012. Subsequently we spoke on the phone, during our conversation he spoke of his utter delight in having the book and said that he had read to his amazement that in 1953, he had played centre forward in the Munster Final in Killarney, left half back in the Semi-Final vs Louth and at No 8, Midfield, in the All Ireland vs Armagh.

My sincerest sympathies to Karen, Margaret, Anne and all Sean's many relations. He was a remarkable person. So sad for you all. Thinking of you
