None of you would likely remember me but I was one of Dympna’s first lovers. In 1949 I was five and in Ireland for the summer from the U.S. with my mother and sister and brother. As soon as I first met Dympna I was smitten. She was only a little older than me, nineteen, but I knew our love would be forever. 

When I returned home to the US we kept up a lively correspondence for a year or two until we realized that our love was doomed and I imagined through my tears she had run away with away with some older guy.

The last time I saw Dympna it was still clear to me why I had been so enraptured by her. She still had that sense of adventure, that wit, that easy laugh. She took us to a Flock Youle (sp?) outside of Galway and pushed my wife and me to the front of the room though a sea of astonished natives. Before Gerry passed away they took us to visit Mrs. Curran, a really memorable first person trip back into the Ireland that was fast disappearing.

Her passing is a loss to us but a blessing to heaven. I hope they realize what they are in for! Rest In Peace but not too much.
