My sympathy and prayer to Eamon’s family and friends. I sat close to Eamon in The Kerryman office. He always had a kind and wise word for me when I was in panic mode. His silent entrance and exit into the office was akin to an original signature tune. When he discovered I was a nephew of John D Hickey he enjoyed telling me yarns of fadó fadó. I imagine they were well embellished. I greatly enjoyed his understated sense of humour.

Only 30 minutes ago, ( December 10) I heard of the death of the death of Eamon from Tom Lynch (Dingle) and his wife Nuala. It came as a great shock as Eamon and I had been very close friends since meetings and annual dinners of the Limerick and District National Union of Journalists and later known as the Irish Southern branch of the of Irish South Western branch of the National Union of the National of Journalists since 1961. He was a great friend ,an outstanding journalist, a great entertainer on social occasions and a dedicated NUJ man. Minutes ago I contacted Seamus Hayes, another ex Clare Champion and NUJ man who was also very sad to hear of Eamon's passing. Both Seamus and I would have given anything to be at Eamon's reposing and funeral mass to say goodbye to a great friend and a legend in the what is now called the old school type of journalism. Sincere sympathy to Carla and all who mourn the loss of Eamon.

So sorry to hear about my cousin Eamon's passing. I really enjoyed being with him and his family on two of my trips to Ireland. I also had a fun weekend with him when he came to Boston in 1999 to give a talk on Kerry football. He stayed with his dear friend, Con Kelly (Belmont, MA).
