Deepest sympathy to TJ and family on the passing of Eamonn.
Very sad to hear the news of Eamonn's passing. I knew him well from school but lost contact over the years. Our thoughts are with his family. May he rest in peace.

I remember Eamonn as a gifted young player who would light up the cattle mart with his soccer skills. A few years later, I had the good fortune to see him star for Ireland Universities v Wales.

Sincere sympathy to TJ, Anne an Thomas, to Sally, to Conor and Mairin and to the extended Semple family, on the sad passing of Eamonn, a quiet and unassuming soccer player of immense talent who was equally at home in the open spaces of ‘the dog track’ when playing with Thurles Town as he was in the confined spaces of the old cattle mart when playing with neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

I was so sad to hear of Eamonn's death. Sincere sympathies to Sally, who I met this evening for the first time, to T.J. and all of the Semple family.
I was privileged to be a friend and Thurles AFC team-mate of Eamonn's in the early 70's, alongside great players and people like Jackie Lanigan, PJ Grace, Eamon Gleeson, Mark O'Sullivan, Jim Behan, Pat Quin, Toddy Finn, Larry O'Sullivan, Seamus Mangan, Gerry Jordan, Michael Dundon, Ken Ryan, Paddy Coppinger, Joe Jordan, Barry O'Sullivan, Ger Carley, Johnny Walsh and many more.
Eamonn was truly a stand out in skill, grace, style, balance, touch and speed. He and Jackie Lanigan were two of the very special ones in that whole era.
Eamon was a gentleman to his core. We parted ways in 1976, forty nine years ago, before mobile phones and social media.
Codhladh snámh Eamonn.

Such a jolt to learn of Eamonn's passing....my sincere sympathy to Sally and the Semple family.

As a child growing up, my summer holidays were spent in Thurles, staying either in Sarsfield St or at my aunt's house in Butler Avenue - directly opposite to Eamonn's.....that was a lucky break for me.....an immediate friendship was struck up and I was quickly invited to join with the rest of the lads and play box soccer up in the cattle mart.....and I too remember his fantastic ability and easy style......
Eamonn was a very engaging character - a great guy and a great friend.....great memories and happy days

Deepest sympathy to Sally, TJ, Conor and Mairin. I was very sad indeed to learn of Eamon's passing. Eamon was a year ahead of me in school and I remember well travelling on the train down to Buttevant to watch a Harty Cup match in which he played. Eamon was a great student and I recall well standing at the end of Butler Avenue in June 1969 as he explained to me that he and his fellow LC comrades were going to have to resit their English and Maths papers. He was very frustrated but took it in his stride as was his style.
But soccer was his first sport of course and the long summer evenings spent playing box soccer in the cattle mart are a pure legend for those of us lucky enough to have been around at that time. Eamon consistently dazzled us all with his talent, and you knew if you were picked on his team on a given evening victory surely lay ahead. What happy days and wonderful memories! One thing that strikes me now is that Eamon was very unassuming and didn't look for glory. I think we young lads all believed that he would end up in Anfield or Old Trafford. I am not forgetting that he moved on to great success with UCD and Thurles Town.
Rest in peace now, Good Friend and Hero of the Avenues!

In the 80s, Brazil had Socrates, their footballer/philosopher. In Thurles a decade earlier, we had our own classic no.10 in Eamon. Elegant and talented, he was a joy to play with and proved himself with Thurles, UCD and Irish Universities teams.

Our deepest sympathy to all of Eamon's family at this very sad time. I went to school with Eamon. I never played soccer but often watched him play in the park behind my house. Eamon verses Micky the twin. Tough matches. Harp & lime. You had to be tough. Always a gentleman. May he rest in peace.
