Very sorry to hear of Mr Ó Carragáin's passing. He brought Beowulf alive to us on many a dreary Tuesday morning in UCC. Condolences to Caitríona and all the family.
He was one of my teachers at UCC in the early 80's (Old English). I recall submitting to him a pretentious essay on the Thorkelin manuscripts, which he treated with great tolerance and kindness. I can only imagine what someone of his expertise thought of it. I remember that.
Sincere condolences to Tomas and all the extended O Carragain family. Your Dad was a great person and a fantastic lecturer, he will be sorely missed. We are thinking of you all at this sad time.
Seanaithne agam ar Éamonn, cé ná feaca le blianta é. An-mheas agam ar mar scoláire agus mar chomhleacaí agus an-chion agam air mar dhuine uasal íseal. Deinim comhbhrón ó chroí lena mhuintir. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis!
Our deepest sympathy to you Mary, Eoghan and all the family on the passing of your dear husband and dad. May he rest in peace.

Dear Mary and family my sincere sympathy on the death of Eamonn whom I knew as a great Library user and a member of the Library Committee when I was Deputy and Acting University Librarian in UCC. I also had the pleasure of going on one of his great educational tours of Rome which he loved and
He enjoyed sharing with us so much of its history. Rest in Peace Eamon.
Beatrice Doran

He was always very approachable, most interesting, very inspiring and totally student orientated. An extraordinary teacher. His work in ACE also became legendary, particularly amongst retired staff, most notably his trips to Rome and Venice. RIP Prof Eamonn O'Carragáin. Ní bheith a léithéad ann arís!

My sincere condolences on the loss of Éamonn. He was a true scholar and gentleman and has left a unique and wonderful legacy. His commitment to, and love of, teaching at all levels and his generosity in sharing his learning is unequalled, certainly in UCC, if not nationally. His scholarship is remarkable both for its depth and breadth across disciplines. May he rest in peace.

I had the privilege of participating in Éamonn's courses on Rome and Venice which were always inspiring and interesting. Éamonn's enthusiasm and knowledge on our trips to Rome and Venice cultivated a long lasting love of both cities.
Éamonn was a true scholar and educator.
May Éamonn's gentle soul rest in peace.
I'm very sorry to hear of Éamonn's passing. I was his student in the early 90s. His enthusiasm for the subject matter and the ease with which he passed to us students made him one of my favourite lecturers throughout my studies at UCC. He certainly was one of the good ones.
May he rest in peace.
Condolences to all the family.
Deepest sympathy to Mary and the entire O'Carragain family on your great loss. Indeed Cork, Tipperary and Ireland's great loss. On many trips to Italy with Eamonn, he imbued us with a great love, and no little knowledge, of that fascinating country. A serious scholar, but always with a twinkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed.
Deepest sympathy to the Ó Carragáin family on your loss. Éamonn was such a wonderful, passionate and warm teacher; I will fondly remember his classes in a small room on Western Road which were sprinkled with Latin and songs. His research will continue to inspire. May he rest in peace.
Fear uasal mín séimh. Beannacht Dé ar anmainn na marbh. Cuimhneod go deo ar 'Dáithí Mac Liam' aka (Sir) David Wilson, Ceannaire ar Mhúsaem na Breataine. Éamonn a bhaist an ainm sin air — 'is é mar mhagadh'!
Mary, Tomas, Eoghan and Caitriona. We are very sorry that Eamonn has passed. We were privileged to get to know Eamonn on the wonderful trips to Venice and Rome. As well as the brilliantly educational and inspiring nature of the week, our shared meals evokes very fond memories. Lunch under the canopy at Luzzi’s (beside the Colosseum) on a wet and thundery afternoon was one such occasion. Eamonn, in fluent Italian organising the waiters and tables for our group ensured we ate and drank well. It was a long and lovely lunch with lots of laughter. We will treasure our memories of those times with Eamonn and Mary. May Eamonn Rest in Peace.
Dear Eoghan, Mary, Tomas, Caitriona,

I have so many happy memories of Eamonn - a very charismatic, interesting, wise and kind man. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Alice

RIP Éamonn. Will always remember my first trip to Rome and having the honour of being guided through the Vatican by you - an amazing person and an absolute gentleman. My deepest sympathies Mary & family.
My sincere sympathy to the family on Eamonn's death. A wonderful scholar with an infectious enthusiasm for his material. Our virtual travel to Rome, Venice and Istanbul in the City Library was fascinating. One of my family who was a student of his described him as "one of those teachers who leaves a lasting impression on you". Indeed may the Angels lead him into Paradise.
Fíor brón orm agus fíor comhbhrón dá chlann. Fear iontach, le eolas le roinnt i neart rudaí. Chuas in aithinne leis trí na cúrsai faoin Róimh agus faoi Venice agus thar aon rud eile trí na turasanna don Róimh agus do Venice. An oiread eolais a fuaireamar uaidh agus an oiread taitnimh is a bhaineamar as bheith ina chomhluadair. Tá laoch ar lár. Leaba I measc na naomh go raibh ag Éamonn
The phrase "Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís", must have been written with Éamonn in mind. His passion and depth of knowledge was inspiring. A loss to his family and the wider world of scholarship. Thanks Éamonn.
Our deepest sympathy for your loss, we will always cherish the memory of Eamonn’s towering wisdom, wit and compassion. Rome will not be the same without him. In loving respect, Mark and Doreen
