My sincere condolences to Dara, Eoin and Colm on the death of your Dad.
I first met Eamonn when I joined St Vincent de Paul in Springfield Tallaght in 1978. I was designated to do home visitation with Eamonn who was an experienced member. His communication style and ability to put the families we visited at ease was obvious and I was immediately hooked. When the door to a home opened Eamonn would greet the person with a handshake and ‘Hello, I’m Eamonn, how are you’ and he would then introduce the person visiting with him. We later moved together to a newly formed SVP Conference in Fettercairn, Tallaght.
Eamonn had a warm, relaxed style that put the families we visited at ease. He would take detailed notes in beautiful handwriting. He would give a precise report to our next meeting and advocate strongly on behalf of the families. He was an extremely valuable member of our Conference and loved by our families – some would ask specifically for Eamonn to visit them - he could have written the SVP home visitation handbook.
He was totally dependable, sincere and with absolute integrity. He wasn’t a big fan of modern technology or the bureaucratic systems that came with it - 'how will that help our families' he would ask. He especially loved to take care of the back-to-school needs in September. Eamonn had a straightforward, practical, no fuss approach to our work which he did with a great sense of humour, lots of stories and some jokes. Thank you for your work Eamonn, RIP.
My deepest sympathy and condolences. May he rest in peace.
