Eddie Hogan

Paschal and family, Eddie's Requiem Mass is wonderful; my congratulations to you all for celebrating Eddie's life, and honouring his memory, in such a loving and joyous way. With my happy memories of Eddie from way back, as well as through our exchange of messages in cards over the years, I share with you the following poem (I found on line, by Author Unknown), it is as though it could have been written especially for Eddie:

A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace,
from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place.

It's filled with moments, sweet and sad with smiles and sometimes tears,
with friendships formed and good times shared, and laughter through the years.

A life well lived is a legacy, of joy and pride and pleasure,
a living, lasting memory our grateful heart's will treasure.

My sincere sympathy to Eamon, Noreen and the extended Hogan family on the loss of your beloved dad. I saw the requiem mass online, and I'm sure Eddie would be so proud of you all for the beautiful and fitting tribute. May he rest in peace.

It was with sadness we learned of the death of Eddie. I was priveleged to meet him in Douglas Library nearly 20 years ago and he offered to volunteer his fantastic skills and knowledge of music by presenting a regular Gramaphone recital for the elderly residents of Oaklodge and continued until recent years.
He was a larger than life character who entertained and MC'd at many sessions with gravitas and professionalism. The recitals included an array of beautiful pieces of music, with a comprehensive background story as well as information on the music and performers. He brought happiness and an uplift to so many people with his smile and care. I'm sure his social connections and sense of purpose contributed to his great age and good health. I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie, a cherished member of Macroom Library Grammaphone Circle. Eddie's presence was felt by all who knew him - a true gentleman who not only shared his love of music but also brightened every occasion with his thoughtful gesture of bringing flowers. His kindness, warmth & generosity of spirit will be truly missed. My thoughts & deepest condolences go out to his family & friends during this difficult time. It was with great sadness we learned of the death of Eddie, a much loved friend and former member of our Society. Eddie was a legend amongst the Gramophone Societies and Music Circles in Cork City and surrounding towns - he presented marvelous recitals because as well as choosing beautiful varied pieces of music, he gave backstories and great anecdotes on the various performers and the relevant recordings. He was unfailingly cheerful and smiling and perhaps it was his good nature that helped him to live to such a great age. Eddie has joined his friends who have already passed on and the celestial choirs will be delighted to have him in their midst.
