Our sincere sympathy to Roisin and Fionnuala on the passing of their father Edmund. We got to know him many years ago through his brother Fr Tom who was a mentor and later a colleague of one of us in the Dept of Experimental Physics of UCD. Deepest sympathy to the Burke family
This may sound strange but while out walking in Terenure on 31/1/2021 the name of Edmund Burke came up in conversation .
Last night his name came up again but this time in relation to his sad passing.
I never knew he was from Terenure .
I met him first as a student in 1970 in Colaiste Eanna when I was 12 yrs of age.
An imposing figure in a three piece black suit with a kind face.
I tested his patience on many an occasion and indeed I was very familiar with the decor in his office.
Tributes posted here tell me he was indeed a great man and talented.
Well some of his wisdom paid off with me in life and the penny eventually dropped .
Edmund deserves a special place in heaven after surviving Colaiste Eanna.
— Eddie Mc Bride

We will remember Eddie always for his kindness, good humour and friendship. At the top of the queue to welcome him with a cup of tea and a biscuit in hand will be Padraig O'Shea and no doubt the banter and craic they had together will be resumed with gusto! His greatest pride was his family and he would be well pleased with the send off today. "A good mass" indeed it was and he is smiling down on you now.........rest in peace Eddie.

My heartfelt sympathy to Róisín, Fionnuala and all Ed's family. I have known Ed since I was ten when as a teenager he was on holiday in our house in Ballivor Co Meath with Ernest Turnbull of Edinburgh My eldest sister Máire (RIP) was a classmate of Fr Tom (then Brother) in UCD and Ernest was a son of the landlady where she stayed while a Ph.D student in Edinburgh who became Principal of a large School in Edmonton, Canada. A teenage pal of their's in Ballivor,Ger Toner, became a priest in Africa. The last time I met Ed was at the launch of Anton Trant's book.
