Sincere condolences to Theresa, Stephen, Claire, Karen on the untimely death of Eddie. May he Rest in Peace.

Cold, dark Winter evenings ; gathering shopping trolleys on the Headford Road car-park, long after the last shoppers had dispersed ; I at the town end, my good friend, Eddie, at the Boxing Club end. We would meet up somewhere in the middle, two long snakes of trolleys in tow. These are the thoughts that I will hold on to, whenever I think of Eddie.

Occasionally, we would trek up Cabbage Lane, on our pilgrimage for the missing trolleys, and I would step out onto a different world that I never knew existed. The terraces - Cooke's, Mellow's, St. Finbarr's - would be teeming with the youth of Bohermore, their voices filling the air in a cacophony of screams, laughter and shrieks as they played and argued with each other. And then, suddenly, one of them would spot Eddie, and they would flock around their hero, the local boy, one of their own, all games and arguments forgotten. Eddie would casually exchange a bit of craic with them, and they would then return to their games, delighted with themselves.

Nowadays, Bohermore is different. The terrace names might still be the same, but Bohermore has changed, not a soul to be seen or heard. If I step out of the car, however, and close my eyes, I can hear the young voices on the breeze, calling out one more time for the guy they looked up to, Eddie Kavanagh.

Sincere condolences to Theresa, Stephen, Claire, Karen, Lena, Marianne, PJ and Ger, on the sudden loss of Eddie. We knew Eddie through soccer at Cregmore. Eddie was a founding member and the first secretary of Cregmore F.C. (now called Cregmore-Claregalway F.C.) where he coached and managed juvenile teams for many years.
We visited him a few times in Tenerife and met him regularly on his trips home to Galway. Rest in Peace good friend.
