I’ve only just heard of Egbert’s passing, what a lovely man he was and I cherish the memories I have of him visiting London with my Dad, George. Hope they are having a pint together somewhere. Condolences to Mary and all the Moran family

Fond memories of Egbert over the years; he always had a very obvious soft spot for “the lads” even when there might have been a small bit of messing going on.
Then in recent years Egbert enjoyed and was always ready for a chat about local sport, rugby, GAA, or politics or developments around the town. And also always retained a keen interest in how the lads were getting on!
He was a proud Athlone man and a connector, the crowds that came out showed that & I hope that gave you all some comfort - it showed the contribution he made.

So sorry to hear of Egbert's death. I am a neighbour from many years ago. I remember his patience and tolerance of all of us younger ones as he allowed us to "help" as he took the hay in on the old hay shifter. A gentle man..he will be missed.
Belated, but sincere, condolences to all of Egbert's family and friends on this sad occasion.'Egby' was a schoolmate of mine in the Infants School during the 1940s, where I'm sure his love of football began with fifty of us chasing one ball around the playground. Always a friendly greeting from him whenever I met him down through the years. May Egbert Rest in Peace.
