My deepest condolences. I first met Eibhear over 30 years ago at an icebreaker meeting where he calmly and wittily related stories from his life. He did the same in UCC, Out & About, Pavee Point and many other places, engaging people in calm, well-reasoned conversations that helped make the world a better, gentler place. His kindness, intelligence, knowledge and good humour will be sorely missed.
My condolences to all of Eibhear's loved ones. I first met him when he volunteered for Gay Switchboard. It was always a pleasure to share a duty with him. He was an incredibly warm man with a great wit. And a wit totally devoid of malice. He bore his learning lightly and had time for everyone. Rest gently Eibhear.
Eibhear was my lecturer in UCC for just the last year, and I feel privileged to have met him even for this short time. His kindness of spirit, generosity and sense of fun made every meeting a joy. He was one of a kind, and I am so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.
Our deepest condolences to Eibhear's partner, Saul, to his mother, Celine, and his family, and many friends. Eibhear was so warm, funny, kind and always generous with his time. We will miss his witty insights, sense of fun, and generosity in engaging with the world and the people that he met. He was always delighted to share his love of literature, and to encourage new and younger writers and readers.

We are also thinking of his colleagues and friends at UCC's School of English and Digital Humanities where he contributed so much as the Programme Director of the MA in Creative Writing and to the teaching of Irish literature more widely. Rest peacefully Eibhear.
I am so sorry for your loss; Eibhear was an incredible teacher and mentor, and a blessing to those who knew him.
Sincere condolences. Eibhear was a kind and inspiring human being. His family and loved ones must be utterly proud of him and so profoundly heartbroken at such a loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
Sincere sympathy

So sorry to hear of Eibhear’s passing, I was in the covid cohort of the creative writing MA and his smile, humour and capacity to listen will stay with me. My sincere condolences and warmest good wishes to his family and close ones.

RoseAnn and I were so sorry to hear of Eibhear's sudden passing. It was only in January this year that we met him again and interviewed him again, this time for a series on WLR. And such a beautiful interview about his work, his life, his writing, his family and his plans for the future. It is touching, poignant, full of positivity and warm-hearted. We feel so lucky to have recorded him. The program will now be aired on WLR FM on Tues 3 Sept at 6.30 p.m. It is now the final in the 10 part series, which is called One of Our Own 2. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé, ár gcara, Eibhear. Catherine and RoseAnn Foley, An Rinn.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the untimely loss of Dr Walshe. I was lucky enough to attend his lectures on the BA degree twenty years ago, and I have fond memories of his humour and pleasant manner. His enthusiasm for his subject matter was infectious, and his voice will echo in the ears of those he taught for many many years to come. Codladh i measc na naomh go raibh aige.
My deepest condolences to the Walshe family. I knew Eibhear through the hiking group and he was such a fascinating man to talk to. He was such a character, full of life and energy. A real joy to be around. He will most certainly be missed.
From Canada, Mary and I want to extend our deepest condolences to Celine, Ria, Oonagh, Eoin and Seamus. Eibhear was a dear friend and we are terribly saddened by the news of his passing. A witty, exhuberant, warm-hearted man, he was someone close to our hearts since we were all students together in the early 1980s. He lives on his books, of course, and in the influence he had on countless colleagues, students, loved ones. Eibhear lived in joy and with joy. That gets passed on.
Sincere condolences to Eibhear’s mother, family, and many friends.

Dearest Eibhear - I can't believe you're gone. Three decades of friendship brought me some of the most engaging and laugh-filled conversations I've ever had. The pure love you had for your research and your teaching was an inspiration and though you were always busy, you found time to take a sincere interest in others' research. I will always be grateful for the time we had, especially when we worked together on the Molly Keane project.
I'll miss our chats, your wit, and our exchange of fridge magnets and soap!! I'll miss a wonderful man and a good friend.
To Celine and all of Eibhear's family and many friends- there are no words but I hope you find comfort in all the expressions of love Eibhear has received here. He truly made a profound mark on so many.
I would like to offer my sincere sympathies to Eibhear's family and many close friends, following his unexpected and very sad passing. Eibhear was the quintessential gentleman with a roguish sense of humour and the quickest of wits. We first worked closely together many years ago on the UCC International Summer School and in the intervening years, meeting him casually on campus was always graced with a smile and a kind word. Just a super guy who will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
I've just heard of Eibhear s loss, my deepest sympathy 🙏 to Eibhear s family & close colleagues. I loved listening to Eibhear n our UCC lectures, his gentle erudition was a joy to listen to, my memory of Eibhear s strolling calmly across the campus, seeing him & saying hello at the quay co-op & at our book reafings n Waterstones & Triskel, he will be missed, may he rest in peace 🙏 le ghra o Jean
A wonderful lecturer.

Sincere condolences to Eibhear’s family and friends. I got to know Eibhear just this year when we spent a month together as visiting fellows at the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies. He was a wonderful person to spend time with, a kind funny curious conversationalist. Knowing how he made life better, I have a small sense of your loss.
Sincere sympathy to you Celine and family , on the untimely death of Eibhear . You are very much in our thoughts and prayers at this time . May Eibhear Rest In Peace .
Dear Eibhear,

I was so sorry to hear of your untimely passing. You were one of life’s true gentleman. A person full of generosity of spirit and one of the kindest most magical people I have met in my life. I was in awe of your way with words and language and thoroughly enjoyed the many chats we had on the hikes I was with you on. I met Eibhear during my time at the LGBT Out and About Hiking Club last year. As a new younger member, he was always there with his sharp wit, listening ear and kindness as we all went on our travels around the mountains of Wicklow and Louth. I am so glad to have met you Eibhear, you were an inspiration to so many. May you rest in peace and my sincere condolences to your family and friends.

Sincere condolences to all who loved Eibhear. I am shocked & saddened to hear of his death. His easy manner, wit, generosity and academic advice was appreciated and will be missed by many. May he Rest in Peace.
My thoughts are with all who loved Eibhear, especially Saul and Celine. It’s so hard to believe that he is no longer with us. I think I won’t fully know that Eibhear is gone until I walk down the Department of English corridor at UCC and see his office door closed. Eibhear always kept it open, and it was such a pleasure to pop in for a chat. Indeed, sometimes the chat would go on for so long that you’d forget what you had been on the way to do before you called in to him! We’ll miss you so much, Eibhear.
Eibhear was such an inspirational lecturer. My first memory of studying English at UCC was of Eibhear. I was mesmerised by those early lectures on Wilde and the memories stay in such a warm place in my heart. I am deeply saddened to hear the news. May he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to the Walshe family on the passing of Eibhear.

From your past next door neighbour in The Folly and class mate of Eibhear in school days.

Anthony.
Deepest sympathy to the Walshe family and to all those who loved Eibhear. I knew him during his De La Salle days many moons ago and followed his career with admiration and respect over the years. May he rest in peace.
Éibhear was my graduate professor at UCC for Creative Writing. He was the reason I applied to the program when I met him during an undergraduate trip. I am grateful for his kindness, his care, his brilliance and positive influence in my writing and my life. My time in Ireland was one of the most special periods of my life. I give my deepest sympathy to Éibhear's family and friends.

Celine and family,
My sincere sympathy to you all for the sudden loss of Éibhear. I only just heard in the past hour so have missed all services.
Éibhear was very generous to me when I was trying to find my way with my grand aunt’s work- Teresa Deevy. His own work and critique of her work never leaves my bookcase. I refer to it regularly.
He will be sorely missed I’m sure. Especially since his sudden departure came so unexpectedly.
My thoughts are with you all.
Jacqui Deevy and family.
My deepest sympathies to Eibhear's sister Ria and his family on his sad and untimely passing. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Sincere Condolences to all the family on the very sad passing of Eibhear, he was a thorough gentleman, and will be missed so much. May his gentle soul rest in Peace.
I had the pleasure of being in contact with Eibhear a number of times some years ago, seeking guidance from him arising from his research and writing on Elizabeth Bowen and G.F. Handel. He couldn’t possibly have been any more friendly or helpful.

He leaves behind a body of work which his family, as well as his colleagues and friends in UCC, can be rightly proud of. My condolences to you all.
My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Saul, Celine, Ria, Oonagh, Eoin and Sheamus and to all who loved Eibhear,

His sudden and untimely loss is mourned by so many. I knew Eibhear as a funny, kind, generous man, a lecturer who open-heartedly shared his research with new generations of scholars, a loyal and supportive friend, and an artist and scholar of brilliance. May he rest in peace and may you find strength and comfort in the many happy memories you have of him.
