Thinking of this special person whom I worked for once I qualified. An original overseas nurse who came to Burton from her beautiful home in Ireland . Spent most of her life at Burton hospital working as a special sister on St Modwens. I still remember my first 3 years nursing with such fondness , although a little scary at times, she had a heart of gold. So many happy memories and met so many special people 💙 Sister Matkin , thank you for being a fabulous sister . Rest in peace xxx

Eileen will always be ‘Sr Matkin’ to me. Her ward St Modwens was my first ward when I qualified in 1991, it was there I met some of my oldest and dearest friends. Eileen ran a tight ship, we worked hard and learned a lot, but we also had a lot of fun and we still share many stories of our time together on “St Mods”
