Georgia, Jake and Ciarán wanted to post their Eulogy to Eileen to commemorate her life and our memories of it 💕💕.


Thank you all for being here today to honour and celebrate the memory of Eileen - my beloved wife, and Mom to Georgia and Jake. Her sudden passing at such a young age has left a void in our lives that words can barely express.

Eileen was the North Star in all our lives, her strength, kindness, constant selfless acts and huge sense of fun, warmth, laughter and adventure touched everyone she met.

For 27 years, I had the privilege of having Eileen in my life. I was frequently reminded by my friends about how much ‘I had punched above my weight’. I was blessed . I have tried to contemplate what measurement system do you use for this ? I am not sure, but I think I can settle on Leagues, so I literally punched Leagues above my weight. Our journey together was filled with adventure, happiness and so many moments that are precious. Most importantly though, was the gift of our two children, Georgia and Jake. Eileen was not just a wife and mother, but our best friend, confidante, problem solver, wordsmith, speech writer, life navigator, and unconditional supporter. She always had a solution for anything life threw at us, and navigated it with such grace and strength.

Eileen was born in the Bronx to Tom and Tessie Browne. There Eileen spent the first 8 yrs honing that alluring accent and refining that laugh that always came from her heart .The Browne Family of Tom, Tessie, Karen, Kevin and Eileen moved home in 1978 to Longford where they relocated from the land of multichannel and colour TV to monochrome and one station. Keith was born a few of years later. He was 15 years her junior, and perhaps responsible for triggering the maternal nature Eileen possessed. Tucked away in Killoe, in the family business of her ‘village grocer and publican’, she started developing her admirable people skills, and genuine ability to connect with anyone. Eileen always maintains that she was a shy child, a concept that I have always struggled to believe, but the skills she developed in that family business were definitely a big cornerstone of her personality.

After Longford, Eileen set off for London to start her professional adult life as a graphic designer, she built a tight circle of friends and her ‘London Boys’ have remained a tight connected friend group to this day. She also spent time travelling and working around the States and returned to Dublin in the Mid 90s, where I was lucky enough to be introduced to her by mutual friends in Toners on Baggot St . After realising she was actually interested in me, I became a new and improved version.

We were married in Dec 2000, and lived in Dublin for a number of years where we were joined by Georgia in ‘03, moved to Galway in ‘05 and completed our quartet with Jake in ‘08.

Pre Kids – Eileen was audacious, never turning down an adventure or new experience. She was open-minded, and approached any new dynamic such as city hopping , skiing, or just simply weekends away visiting our friend group. Like most, we had an adjustment when kids arrived, but the adjustment to parenthood was a seamless transition for Eileen, family became her priority. A ‘Mama Bear’ was what we deemed her, offering herself as a shield to protect her young. Eileen would give you the clothes off her back, as long as her unit of four was not perturbed. Similar to each bullet that ricocheted off her protection, Eileen ricocheted through life. Bouncing back, and becoming stronger from each challenge that crossed paths with her. She was a force to be reckoned with, and an exceptional example-set for Georgia and Jake. Nothing was impossible for Eileen. A good example of this was when we relocated to Galway - Eileen was worried that Georgia was transitioning into a new creche and friend group. Eileen felt she could have a better understanding of this transition if she got a job in the same creche to monitor the progress of said transition.!!

Eileen was also a creator. She curated a sixth-sense for style over the years, collecting different tools for different occasions. She transformed faces with make-up skills , started her own furniture import business bringing in a line of eco-friendly luxury furniture and distributing amongst Art galleries in the UK , thrifted outfits with exceptional vision, and was the best interior designer without a license that I knew. She was a true homemaker that would grace me with this gift whenever I left the house for a work or sporting trip. On return, I seldom recognised my own home. Eileen would paint, build and move furniture, and scatter her love in a new way throughout the room of choice she took victim.
This creativity moved into the Digital world when she completed a Post Grad in Digital Marketing, she continually used this skill to tell either a professional story or a family story. When Jake decided to run for Class president in 5th class, the supporting marketing video campaign that Eileen created ensured that there was only going to be one victor !!

About 7 yrs ago Eileen joined ATU where she thoroughly enjoyed her new role and exposure to a new colleague group. The condolences page from her ATU colleagues has been a source of great solace, and exemplified how loved and respected Eileen was on campus. Never settling into a comfort zone, she quickly moving through the ranks to roles with more responsibility. She completed another post grad in Career Development, with one eye on wanting to know this space for her family as much as her career. Now she was a professional Mama Bear.

Our world got a seismic shock when she received a cancer diagnosis last Aug, the prognosis gave her weeks, but the admiration, respect and love we have for Eileen on how she faced that challenge is just mammoth. She really believed that she had too much to live for and through her faith, exercise regime, positive mindset and nutrition, she battled tooth and nail to claw back some control. We were so proud of all the strides she made and how she pulled it back from the brink, and certainly we had some cause for real hope. We have all seen how radiant she looked on the 28th Dec , but unfortunately even then, there were small signs that the disease was outwitting the treatment, things spiralled for the worse from the 07th Feb. In the end it was quick and comfortable and Eileen prioritised peace. We lost our treasured Eileen on Feb 14th and in a way that is fitting because the love we shared as a family should be celebrated on Valentines Day.

I just recently heard of the passing of Eileen, a former colleague , I am so sad to hear that. Condolences to her Galway and Longford families. She always put a smile on my face. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam
