Eileen Lynch

On the “long and winding road” that brought me here, I walked a while with Frank and Eileen. She, along with Frank, was caring, compassionate, conscientious and mischievously humorous. She listened carefully and accepted you as you were. She made a substantial contribution to the world of personal and spiritual development.
The last time I met her in Blackrock, getting her coffee with Frank, she told me about her terminal illness and how she was accepting of it. After chatting, sharing, for a short while we bid each other farewell. As I walked away, saddened, I noticed that I felt lighter in myself, which seemed counter intuitive. Resisting the temptation to over analyze, I treasured that lightness as a gift. Even in her illness her generous spirit radiated and bestowed blessings. That’s how I remember Eileen.
My deep sympathies to Frank, and Eileen’s family, on the passing of Eileen, a generous, and fine human being.

I did the SHEP course in the 1980's with Eileen & Frank. It had a profound impact on my life and on my teaching. I'm very grateful to have been involved then & it was a great pleasure to meet Eileen during the years since. She always listened with an open heart & was full of love & compassion. So sorry to learn of Eileen's death just this past weekend, a woman who created much change and influenced many in a quiet, courteous and gentle manner. It was with great sadness that we learned of dear Helens passing. Sincere Condolences to Jackie Jacqueline John her sisters Margaret and Patricia and the extended Family .Helen was a kind and generous lady a great neighbour a woman of deep faith many Mass Bouquets were sent to people who were sick.We will miss you Helen .

My deep condolences to Frank and to all Eileen’s family and friends. I had only begun to know Eileen through joining Elders for Earth a few years ago , but from the talks I had with her on picnics to Rosscarbery and from people who had known her for many years I saw what a gently inspirational person she was, how much she had transformed peoples lives, and I wish there had been more time to spend knowing her. Strangely we both realised we had spoken extensively on the phone many years ago when I asked SHEP to send tutors down to Sneem , when I was managing the Family Resource centre there and was so impressed they were prepared to travel so far . A life so very well lived .

Frank, my condolences on the death of Eileen. Both of you have been guiding lights to so many of us. I have the fondest memories of times spent with you and Eileen in SHEP over the years. I want to send my condolences to everyone who knew Eileen, especially to her family and her friends, but most of all to her husband, Frank, who is one of my oldest and dearest friends.

Eileen was always fully present in her conversations, listening and trying to make sure she understood what the other person said, or what he or she might have meant, ready with a kind or an encouraging word, often with a little smile of recognition or the humble laugh of a generous fellow human being. Her spirit seemed to remain the same throughout her long illness, almost to the end. She was a wonderful person, who will be very sorely missed. May she now rest in peace.

It adds to my sadness that I cannot be in Cork tomorrow for her funeral, prevented by an untimely dose of influenza. Bernard, Daniel and Sammy join me in sending our condolences to all of the members of Eileen's family.

I learnt of Eileen’s death with great sadness.....a beautiful strong gentle woman of courage....of deep commitment to Social justice and equality. Our paths crossed and linked almost 50 years ago, as the Cork Anti Poverty Resource Network established roots in the Northside of the City and the foundations of what became SHEP was laid down by Eileen and her compatriots in the social and education fields.
