I first became aware of Eileen over 50 years ago when my dad would mention he was going to see one of the kids. Then I got to know her myself when I started working in Pearse St almost 40 years ago. Eileen was a force of nature, a colossus who came into the room with her big smile and proceeded to make everything right. Eileen never took a step back, faced up to all life threw at her, rolled up her sleeves and got on with it. She had a toughness you find in those who grew up in a different Ireland, in a Ringsend where there was poverty but people looked after each other. Eileen was as honest and as direct as the day was long, and I loved that about her. You always knew exactly where you stood with Eileen. To Vin and the entire family, our heartfelt condolences - one of life’s greats has been taken from us too early. Ar dheis Dé a raibh a h-anam uasal agus suaimhneas síoraí dí.
