Heartfelt condolences to Mrs O’Mahoney’s family on their huge loss. News of her death has brought feelings of great sadness to our Family, but has also invoked many happy and great memories of days in Glenbeg NS which are treasured forever. We were privileged to be “her children” (as she referred to all her pupil’s ). She was an Inspirational and amazing Teacher, a Lady in every way, who always went above and beyond for us, even to driving us to school for all the years.

Well Miss, as we used to say in farewell at school, all those years ago….(can hear the clatter of the wooden seats as they folded back, when we stood in respect as the visitor left the classroom)…..”Slán agus beannacht, agus go raibh maith agat. Go N’éirí an bother leat”. xx

Dear [Family of Eileen O’Mahoney],

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eileen O’Mahoney. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been one of her students at Glenbeg School. Even as a young student, I remember her patience, persistence, and unwavering dedication—not just to teaching, but to shaping us as people.

Eileen was a remarkable educator who did far more than her role required. In a small, under-resourced school, she gave us the gift of music, school concerts, and Christmas celebrations. She also taught us sport, cooking, and even showed us young men how to knit—after five years I was the proud owner of a hand-knitted jumper, something I still smile about today.

She guided us through early religious milestones such as First Confession and First Communion, and quietly instilled values that went far beyond the classroom—kindness, inclusion, helping those who needed a little extra support, and taking pride in ourselves and our community. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and shaped the person I am today, even as I now live abroad.

Her commitment, high standards, and quiet strength inspired all of us, and being a Glenbeg student was truly a badge of honour because of her. I regret I never got the opportunity to tell her in person, but I hope her family knows—they don’t make them like that anymore.

I taught with Eileen when I came to Dungarvan first and those days in Glenbeg retain a golden glow for me, because of Eileen. She was wonderful to work with, a fantastic role model and we had so many great laughs. She was a kind, and generous woman , who has left a wonderful legacy and she will be not be forgotten.

We were so sorry to hear of Eileen’s passing. She was a wonderful friend to both my parents throughout the years but particularly to my mam Mai. She called to her everyday for a chat, helped mam with her shopping and was the most loyal and supportive friend. She was a big part of our childhood growing up with many Choral and Dramatic club performances together with Dad. Our sincere sympathy to Michael, Niall, Owen and the extended family. She will be missed.

So sorry to read of Eileen’s passing, she was a wonderful woman in every sense from teaching to her magical performances on stage with Dungarvan Dramatic and the Musical and Choral society.

Her contribution to the arts was phenomenal and will be remembered by all who had the privilege of seeing her on-stage.
