I am very sad to read of the death of lovely Eithne. I am especially sad to have missed her funeral. She has been on my mind a lot these days and just as I planned to visit her I heard of her death. I have very many happy memories of enjoying dinner, sing songs and poetry at Renmore Road with her dear English friend Fr. Leo Coughlin. Deepest sympathies to her beloved Larry, to Michael, Peter and Christine, about whom I heard so much. Regrets at not having visited her oftener in Brampton, but grateful for the visit we did enjoy. We are very sorry to hear of Eithne's death and our deepest sympathy to her loving husband Larry, to her family and many friends.
Eithne was a force of nature, always thinking outside the box, and through her charm, creativity and dedication made a huge contribution to community life in Renmore.
She was the founder chairperson of Renmore Active Retirement Association in 1997 and through ARRA led us to perform 'A Slice of Percy French' in the National Concert Hall. She organised the hosting in Renmore of survivers of the Omagh bombing (1998). She encouraged our involvement in every worthwhile activity and taking part in St Patrick's Day parades was her forte. A great lady for a bit of fun, her monologues and jokes were always the highlight of our party events. Eithne was elected the National President of Active Retirement Ireland in 2003 and continued as a board member thereafter. She received the Galway Mayors Award in 2004.
Apart from ARRA, Eithne had a great sense of Community and Parish. She was instrumental in setting up the Renmore Friendship Club, She Chaired the Renmore Parish Development Association and organised the Renmore Weekend Millennium Festival (2000). She was a Church Mass Reader and a concerned Christian, always looking out for the vulnerable.
