I cannot let the moment pass without paying tribute to my friend Eddie, he and I are married to 2 sisters, all very close friends, we used to have an annual weekend away, usually in Salthill, with Margaret and her girls,Eddie was great company, chatting about his work with the Cork corporation, he was in charge for the laying out of the St Catherine cemetery in kilcully, which was a huge project, on the north side of the city, the only other cemetery was Rathcooney and that was almost full, so this was a big deal, so Eddie was the gaffer, laying down the concrete foundation for the headstones, a meter apart, all numbered, foundations wide enough to take 2 headstones back to back, and then there was the perimeter wall by the road, a magnificent structure of stone, built by great stone masons, Eddie told me he had to keep an eye on one of his masons cos he was inclined to use small stone,,,,, Eddie went on to the water repairs department after that,, he would be called to repair water leaks,,,, but as foreman, he got stuck in to get the job done as fast as possible.
Eddie has left a legacy of his workmanship around the place where he was...

I’m so sorry for your loss Betty. There are unsung heroes and there was Eddie. There are beautiful places now in the city that are a tribute to the effort and perseverance he put in. I have fond memories of Eddie battling at Gerry O’Sullivan park to make it a place to be proud of. Red abbey and Clashduv park also to name just a few. I hope he will rest easy in Kilcully, another place he transformed. I’m sure by now he has also oiled that squeak on the pearly gates and has figured out how to fix the leak in the heavenly fountain. Rest in peace Eddie, you are sorely missed
