I was saddened to hear of the passing of our dear resident Betty.

Betty certainly lived out the scripture passage of 2 Timothy 4:7-8
7) You have fought the good fight, You have finished the race, You have kept the faith.
8) Now there is in store for You the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to You on that day — and not only to You, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

We remember very well Leslie for his great work in the community and in St Finian's. We found it very moving to hear Betty take part in Mass at the Oratory. It was always very special to hear Betty join in the singing. Her voice was different but wholehearted and special. She used to be thrilled when she saw a photo of herself up on the screen. Apologies - I couldn't be there on Monday for Betty's funeral.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother, Betty Smartt. Please accept my deepest condolences at this difficult time.

Betty’s warmth, kindness, and gentle presence touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. It is clear from the beautiful tribute that she was deeply loved, not only by her children and grandchildren, but also by her extended family, neighbours, and friends. Her legacy of love and strength will no doubt continue to shine brightly through each of you.

Although words can do little to ease the pain of such a loss, I hope you find comfort in the many memories you shared together and in the care and support of those around you. I trust that the Funeral Mass in St. Canice’s Church will be a beautiful and fitting celebration of Betty’s life, and I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, especially on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, I will be making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in Betty’s memory—a cause that feels all the more meaningful given your kind suggestion.

Wishing you strength, peace, and comfort in the days ahead.
