It is with deep sadness that we have just heard of the passing of Betty. She was an important part of our lives and a kindred spirit when we arrived in Galway in the early nineteen seventies. We have fond memories of the good times spent with her: always so lively, interesting and curious of everything. Our thoughts are with Jim, Daniel and Marcus at this time.

Sympathies to Jim and all the Gosling and Byrne families. I hope the great memories of Betty’s active and rich life sustain.

So sorry to have just heard of the death of Betty. She was a mighty woman, full of energy and with a great intellect. My deepest sympathies to Jim and all the family.

There are very few people who have left an impression in my life and Betty is one of them. From Certificate to PhD, she was more than just a supervisor, she became a friend. Jim, I'm so sorry for your loss.

To Jim, Marcus, Daniel, Paul, Anne, Sam & Liam I was so sorry to hear about Betty's death. I met her shortly after arriving in Galway in the mid-80s, and got to know her better through the book club we were in together for so many years. She was a voracious reader with interesting tastes, and always beautifully turned out, tall and so stylish, always bringing stories of family, cycling, hiking, travel and later, publishing. A big loss to all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Elizabeth Gosling. Betty was an incredible mentor and had a profound impact on my education at the University College Galway (now University of Galway). I was saddened to hear of Betty’s passing. I worked with her for many years in GMIT where she contributed enormously both as a dedicated and inspirational lecturer and also as an award winning researcher. She succeeded in securing significant funding for GMIT through her many successful research proposals to various funding agencies both national and international. She was also a lovely, friendly and engaging person and it was always a pleasure to meet her. My sincere sympathies to all the Gosling family on her very sad passing. May her kind and gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

I only heard of Betty’s passing last night, I was completely stunned by the sad news. She was somebody I was proud to call a friend. May I offer my condolences to all her family. She inspired me by grasping life and life’s experiences by both hands.
