My condolences to Elizabeth's family. She was my line manager when I was a graduate trainee in TCD Library. Elizabeth was supportive, encouraging and kind, and I learned a great deal about library work from her. May she rest in peace.
I am very sad to hear of the passing of my colleague and friend Elizabeth McNamara, RIP. I knew Liz initially when she contributed to teaching in the Library School in UCD in the 1980s and 1990s. Liz was an inspirational teacher who had a great rapport with students. She drew on her considerable expertise in the Library of Trinity College to link her teaching to practice.
I also had the pleasure of knowing Liz through membership of Elm Park Golf and Sports Club. We had many enjoyable encounters on the tennis courts, the golf greens and the Bridge tables, where Liz finished every activity with a twinkle in her eye and a kind word.

Elizabeth was my first manager in the Library world, when I was a Graduate Trainee in the Library in Trinity in the 1980s. Liz was very kind and supportive, and she had a great zest for life. She found humour in the everyday and I still remember the twinkle in her eye and the infectiousness of her laughter. Condolences to all the family. May she rest in peace.

Liz introduced me to the mysteries of the Bibliography & Reference collection on the shelves in Iveagh Hall when I joined Trinity Library staff as a trainee back in the 1970s. She was always a supportive colleague over the years, sharing her professional knowledge and her entertaining insights into our readers’ behaviours.
