Elizabeth was a near neighbour, a choir colleague, and was of Ballina - like several other excellent members of the choir, and my father. Descended from an MP, like another choir colleague, she was a most dignified lady and very popular, for her warmth and friendliness. Her absence from the neighbourhood was profoundly felt by all. We shall miss her profoundly. Solas na bhFlaitheas uirthi. And our condolences to all her connections.
It is so sad to hear of Liz's death. My condolences to all her beloved siblings - your hearts must be breaking.
I first met Liz way back in the early '70's when we worked together in the Ardree Hotel in Waterford and discovered our mutual love of the light opera scene there. That began a friendship which has lasted throughout the intervening years and which has been such a bonus to me.
She is and will remain such a dear and great part of so many days and nights of music and travel that it's impossible to reminisce about anything in those times without her coming into the picture. She was also instrumental in introducing Greece to me many decades ago giving me so many years which have meant so much to my life.
Liz was also a committed corresponder, a real pen and paper one (also a ciotóg which I so envied!). She kept me very up to date on all the happenings in her and her lovely family's lives when I left Ireland. In fact she and my other three 'sisters' were all in 'Collinstown' to bid me a tearful farewell when I left - all arriving here within the following year to check up on me and my new world adventure.
My post won't be the same without that familiar hand being on the now-and-again envelope but, being the hoarder that I am, I'll be able to get through those blue days by rereading her writings from times gone by and she'll make me smile.
Rest peacefully - I'm so happy and blessed to have known you and be able to call you my dear friend...
