Ellen (Nellie) Thompson

Sad to hear of the passing of Nellie, known to us as Auntie Nellie when we were growing up in Mountmellick. Lots of memories from a long life well- lived. A very loving and giving lady whose light will be sadly missed in the town. Sincere sympathy to Desmond, John, Sylvia and families.

I have just learned, with great sadness, of the passing of Nellie. An exceptionally charitable and gracious lady. She devoted many years to supporting St. Francis School, Portlaoise, in its early years, both as an extremely energetic fundraiser as a member of the Parents and Friends Association, and subsequently as a very committed member of the School’s Board of Management for many years. The school, and other services for children and adults with special needs were often the beneficiaries of her ‘Charity Shop’ run from beside her home, for so many years. May she rest gently now with her beloved Cecil. My deepest and most sincere condolences to John, Desmond and Sylvia, and all the extended family. I greatly regret missing her funeral. Pat O’Keeffe.
