My deepest sympathy to Mary and to all of the Conway family on Enda's passing. He was an absolute gentleman, and a strong advocate not just for planning for the common good, but also for the establishment of an independent planning profession in Ireland. Enda encouraged me, when a recent planning graduate back in the late 1970's, to join and then to become involved in the Irish Planning Institute, and I served with him for many years on the Institute's Council. During all that time, I very much valued his wise advice, his straightforward way of speaking, and his commitment. In more recent times, after his retirement, he remained a great supporter of the Institute, of which he was a founder member, a past President and an Honorary Member, and he has hugely contributed to building the Institute's archives. He will be very much missed within the Institute and the wider planning profession.
Sincere sympathy to the Conway family on Enda’s death. My dad Tom Durcan and Enda’s dad were v good friends. Enda’s dad was also our camogie coach so I have lovely memories of the family. May Enda’s gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Sincere condolences to the extended Conway family on your loss.

Enda Conway was a very committed trade union member in Dublin County Council branch of LGPSU/IMPACT.

He attended and contributed hugely to our branch meetings and our annual conferences. The fact that he was a professional and of a senior grade, was perhaps somewhat unusual for somebody who was also a deeply committed trade union member.

I shared the table of many's the committee meeting with Mr Conway. He represented his Planner colleagues; and held and expressed very sincere views that may not always have been popular.

I well remember fiercely defending his views on certain particular social issues at local and national union level. Not because I agreed with him. But because I felt that being liberal meant exactly that! Respecting other points of view.

May Enda rest in peace.

Larry Dunne. Former clerk in DCC Planning Department and LGPSU/IMPACT local activist.
