Enda William McDERMOTT

I have just heard of Enda Mc Dermott's untimely death. Having read many of the condolences I concur most emphatically with them. Eleven years ago he saved my life and went above and beyond the protocols to reassure me. He was a brilliant surgeon and was caring, humorous and attentive. My heartfelt sympathies to his family and to Maureen and to all his staff and colleagues. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

It is with great sadness that I have only just learnt of the untimely passing of Enda McDermott. I entrusted my life to him seven years ago and he looked after me with such kindness, diligence, honesty yet always remaining a true gentleman and a wonderful surgeon. I shall sorely miss seeing him each year at my annual check up. My deepest sympathy to his wife and family who I know from our many conversations he adored and to his kind and caring secretary Maureen who was always the voice of reassurance each year. Our loss and heaven's gain. RIP.

My most sincere sympathy to Mrs McDermott, his beloved family, siblings and Maureen his trusted and devoted Secretary on the sudden and untimely passing of a true professional gentleman, 27 years he has been my Consultant and confidant, he was one of nature's true Gentlemen, he always told me I was one of his longest living patients, and it was he who took such care and attendance to detail that I am still here, May his gentle soul rest peacefully in God's Garden. I was devastated to learn of Enda's death today at an appointment in Vincents Hospital. He was a special man, kind, caring, a wonderful surgeon and he saw beyond our cancer to treat the whole person. He saved my life and that of countless other women, conveyed bad news in a compassionate way and was reassuring and confident in his own skills when surgery went well. I miss him beyond words. My heart goes out to Maureen his long-time secretary and of course to his wife and family who he loved dearly.

I was truly sorry and shocked to hear of the unexpected death of Enda. My sincere sympathy to all his family and particularly to Maureen his secretary. I had only seen him a few weeks beforehand . He was such a professional and sincere man with always a smile on his face. He had such a way with him even when he was delivering your diagnosis. He certainly made my journey as painless as possible and dont think i would have got through those awful weeks without knowing i was in his capable hands. It is with my heart broken that i read this tragic news in 1918 i have met Dr McDermott who saved me by more seriuos conseguences if it wasn't for him i prob wasn't here in this world. In May 2006 Dr Enda saved my life. Thanks to him and all the wonderful team in SVPH. I will be eternally grateful. He was simply the best. I have just heard of the loss of Enda McDermott. I feel bereft. He was my rock since my surgery in 2010. At my last consultation at the end of January, he said to me that when we meet next year we’ll have no masks and we won’t know each other! What man proposes, God disposes. I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Mc Dermott's sudden passing. I attended the hospital today and expected to see him when I heard the news. He performed my surgery 6 months ago and I will be forever grateful for his kindness and support throughout an extremely difficult time. I was so saddened to hear of Mr Mc Dermott's untimely death, my sincere sympathy to Mrs Mc Dermott and family. Mr Mc Dermott was a great surgeon and his patients held him in such high regard, he was always so good and kind to everybody especially staff if they needed his care. But one very special thing about him was that he never passed a member of staff without a hello.

I knew him in his student years through my brother Val and he left a striking impression on me, bright, bubbly, so so intelligent, wonderful. My sincere condolences to Annette and family on the untimely death of Enda. It was with great sadness that I heard the sad news yesterday. I was due to see him next month for my annual appointment. I got to know Enda over twenty three years ago while he was working in the breast clinic. He was the most kind,emphatic,caring and modest person. In the early days, he used to see me in between surgeries .... nothing was too much trouble. I had my surgery in 1999 and I never looked back since. He was truly an amazing surgeon. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

I have only just heard of Enda's death. I am so sorry. My deepest condolences to all his family. Enda was a wonderful colleague when we both were young doctors in Vincents. He was a kind and caring surgeon and friend in later years when I needed medical care myself. HIs memory will live on in those of us who knew him.

I got to know Enda this past year through his work at the breast clinic. He was such a kind, empathetic soul, he always had time to answer my questions and listen to my concerns. My sincere condolence to Enda's wife, family and siblings on the sudden death of Enda.He diagnosed my breast cancer and performed my surgery in 2017 I was still attending him every year and due to see him in August . I cannot believe it I think of him every day. He was so humble and easy to talk to.

I recall my first meeting with him after diagnosis advanced cancer.
What made him different was He shared my psychological pain, sense of total lack control of my future.
But he kindly so so so kindly looked me in the eyes and said we will do everything.
I walked out of that appointment looking facing sensing the fear in the other females pending review and in each other’s eyes of course feeling lost shaken, but his words manner genuine ability to acknowledge a sense of strength high quality delivery of care gave me the ability to drive home to 3 young children and carry on....I am terribly saddened for his family please know not just me but all his patients we are thinking of you and we always will because he gave us life.....

It was with profound sorrow and sadness that I learned yesterday of the tragic death of Mr. McDermott. He was my doctor for 22 years having guided me through my diagnosis of BC, my surgery, subsequent treatment and convalescence and regular checkups ever since. He was wonderful throughout, caring, kind and generous with his time and so supportive at all times and reading the tributes on this platform my experience mirrored those of so many other patients. My deepest sympathy to Annette and their children of whom I know he was so proud. May the good Lord console and help you through this awful time and may his beautiful soul rest in a well deserved Peace. I will pray for him and to him for as long as I live

Our sincere condolences to all the McDermott family. We are in shock at the sad news of Enda's death. He has been our 'rock' since 2008 when he saved my life. From the moment I met him, I had unfailing faith and confidence in him. I even remember one time he made me and all the nursing staff laugh - while I was "on the slab" starting an operation! A surreal experience! Early morning, late at night, all days of the week, you'd see him quietly going through the wards reassuring, consoling, entertaining and teaching all around. His skills were unparalleled, as was his humility. We'll miss you, Enda. Thank you for everything. May God bless you richly. Rest in peace.

I've just had my appointment cancelled but when Maureen explained why it's so hard to take in. Thank you Mr McDermott for saving my life three times, for being so caring ,kind and thoughtful, for going the extra mile to ease my concerns. You didn't have to but you did.

I only heard last week of Mr McDermotts passing when I was in SVPH for tests. I was shocked and my heart was broken to hear the news. He treated me in 2006 and again in 2016. A true gentleman in every sence of the word.

How he laughed the day I was in with him and at the end of the consultation, he said "Any other problems?". I said, lots but I'm not sure you'd want to hear them. He responded, "I'll listen if you listen to mine". I told him that he couldn't afford me.

He will be a huge loss to the Hospital not to mention his large and loving family. May he be rewarded for all the lives he saved, his beautiful gentle manner and may he now be resting in peace after is earthly work is done.

I have just this morning heard about Dr McDermott’s sudden passing. I am speechless, he was the most wonderful, empathetic, kind and modest man. He was so so good to me from the very first day I met him. He never missed a day coming to see me and reassure me. My heart goes out to his family, you are all very much in my thought and prayers. I am heart broken to hear of Enda's passing. He was an incredibly skilled, compassionate and caring doctor. Nothing was ever a problem and his sense of humour made those difficult days so much better for me.

He loved it when I told him not to be using those "fancy words" and and say it in plain English. He told me there were videos on UTUBE explaining how to remove the draining tubes after my operation... when I told him the next day I had looked them up, understood it, but there was no way I was doing that on my own, he was delighted... he walked off chuckling to himself.

I was so shocked and sad to hear of the loss of Mr McDermott. Deepest sympathy to his wife, family, friends and all his colleagues.
He operated on me twice in March 2020, Lockdown 1.0 in a very quiet hospital, when operations all over the country were postponed due to the arrival of Covid-19. He kept calm and ensured my operations went ahead as planned and I will be forever grateful for his wonderful care and such kindness to me during what must have been for him a very difficult time.

I have only just heard of the sudden passing of Mr. MC Dermott.RIP. He was my surgeon back in 2016 and gave great care and attention . A brilliant surgeon. My condolences to his family and colleagues,especially Maureen and the Staff in Breast Check.

Enda was one of a kind. His dedication to his patients was remarkable, he was a surgeon for no other reason than to help people as much as he could.
As staff we loved Enda, his kindness, his support, his hilarious stories and dry witty comments made him a pleasure to work with. I loved a conversation with Enda because I knew I would end up laughing, he made us all so happy. I’m so so sad for Enda’s family, he is such an enormous loss.

Sincere sympathies to Mrs McDermott and all the family. Enda was my surgeon and he was so kind and caring. He came to see me every day for a week as an inpatient post surgery. Once I jumped out of a lift in Vincents to talk to him- an impromptu consult. he was happy to see me, knew exactly who I was and sent me the prescription I needed. Looking through the condolences I see my experience listed over and over. He was so caring and looked after his patients as if they were family. I can only imagine what a wonderful family man he was and how much you will miss him. He was such a huge part of my patient journey and in such a positive way.
