Rest In Peace Ernie i will always associate you with the beautiful bray walk
Goodbye, great friend and comrade. You were a pleasure to know and to serve with. I'll never forget your 3 great likes:" Beer, baccy and books!" Many the pint and argument we had together in the Pop's or some draughty NCO's mess. Many a sing-song we enjoyed together, what was lacking in tune, we made up for in volume! Hold a spot for me in the Great NCO's Mess , have a pint pulled and waiting for me, I'll be joining you in time!
Deepest condolences to Tommy and family on the sad passing of Ernie.

To Pauline and family so sorry to hear of your brother Ernie's death may he rest in peace .
My deepest sympathy and condolences to Tommy,Pauline, William, Niall, Ben and of course his dear friend Kay on Ernie's passing.

It's difficult to find the words to sum up Ernie and what his friendship meant to me. Ernie's gentle charming manner concealed a highly intelligent, deeply thoughtful and considerate man. A true and good friend to me over the years. I first met Ernie nearly 40 years when we both worked for Storage Technology Products in Finglas It was there we started our hill walking partnership which lead us to walk most of the routes over of the Dublin/Wicklow mountains.
Ernie introduced me to jazz music. I introduced Ernie to photography which started his love of Fox Talbot, f-stops and depth of field.

One of my fondest hill walking memories with Ernie is of a walk from Mullaghcleeven, along the Glenmacness river towards the waterfall . It was a beautiful warm summer evening and the last leg of a wonderful days walk. Like children we played among the giant boulders along the bank of the river. Kicking off our boots and stocks we paddled in the water. Sitting on the bank of the river we finished of our coffee and sandwiches recounting our days walk while covered in the beautiful orange glow of the setting sun. We both wished the day would never end.

Now as we try to find the words to help, comfort and console each other. Perhaps we should take heart from Ernie's own rallying call which he used so often on the mountains

"Onwards and Upwards"
I was sorry to hear of Ernies death. He was a kind man with a great love for books and music and the outdoors. Sympathy to those he left behind . RIP

Will think of you Ernie when out walking the Beara Way,remembering how much you enjoyed walking it.
Hope you are pain free now Ernie and at peace.
Farewell to a much loved friend and thank you for all the happy memories of climbing, hillwalking, exploring, swimming in Wexford and many pints of Guinness to accompany many chats.
Ernie you were a veritable hero . You bore your illness with the stoicism and lack of self pity that was apparent throughout your life. You were my very trustworthy friend for 42 years and always "had my back". As l hope l had yours. You lived your life with absolute integrity and l will miss you for ever. Hopefully your spirit will enjoy roaming over the mountains and beside the river banks with time to sit and have a nice pint and a smoke whilst contemplating life. Without my interrupting your daydreams with more earthly considerations.....
O unworn world enrapture me, encapture me in a web
Of fabulous grass and eternal voices by a beech,
Feed the gaping need of my senses, give me ad lib
To pray unselfconsciously with overflowing speech
For this soul needs to be honoured with a new dress woven
From green and blue things and arguments that cannot be proven.

You will always be my hero Ernie.
On behalf of The Pearse Battalion Association I wish to extend deepest symparhies to the Brace Family and Kay on the very sad passing of Ernie.

May his soul rest in peace.
