Ernest Bryan was a highly erudite gentleman who provided a powerful and consistent motivation for my studies of European languages in Wesley College and my later academic work in Trinity and UCD. His humorous anecdotes about his adventures touring Europe provided a fascinating backdrop to his Wesley pupils in his language classes. I owe a lot of my achievements in my studies of European economics politics and languages to his skilled tuition at such an early age long before Internet resources became readily available. I hope to pay my respects to this wonderful man at his grave in Enniskerry at the earliest available opportunity.

Those of us who knew Leslie as a friend and colleague in Trinity Library are sorry to hear of his brother’s passing. Ernest and Leslie were devoted to each other and to their respective careers.
I was saddened to hear of Ernest’s passing. We were colleagues in the German department of Wesley College for eleven years.
I always admired his commitment to the school, and I was inspired by his great organisational skills and keen interest in his students. I remember how much he relished his trips to Germany.
My sincere condolences to his wider family and friends.

Very sorry to hear of Ernest's death and thinking of Leslie too at this sad time.
I offer my sympathy to Mr Bryan's family and former colleagues. Mr. Bryan played a huge part in Wesley boarder history during my time there in the 1970s.
Mr. Bryan taught me German in the 1970s. His enthusiasm for teaching was unfailing and he maintained good classroom discipline tempered with his unique brand of humour. He was a good sport who laughed heartily when one of the students lampooned his teaching style on a school concert. Fond memories and my sympathies to his wider family and friends and former colleagues.
I felt sad at the news of Ernest's passing. He was always a true gentleman, and professional to the core. His students will not know how often he spoke of his concern for them and his wish for the very best for them. Every moment of his time teaching was spent striving to do the best for them, and it has been heartening all week to hear stories from past students filled with warmth and affection and appreciation for him.
Mr Bryan - thank you for your clarity as my German teacher - I will remember you as a gentleman. Rest in peace.
Sorry to hear of Ernest's passing. He was a very supportive colleague to me in my early career in Wesley. He was a thorough professional and went the extra mile for his students. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. RIP.
This man was a bit of a Wesley history and somewhat of an all round good guy who many will have fond memories, a bit of a legend.
We were fortunate enough to have been taught by Mr Bryan in Wesley College in the 1970’s. Many years later at a school reunion we were amazed at his ability to recall all of us , our classmates and even our family members by name!
He was a true gentlemen ..we have very fond memories of him and extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I am so sad to hear about this. He was an old fashioned gentleman and put up with us and lots of kids since. But got us to learn and develop as people.
Mr Bryan taught me German in the 90s, and always had interesting stories about his time in Germany! Years later, when I returned to Wesley to do my H. Dip, he was always kind and interested, and delighted to hear I had spent a year living in Vienna and using my German there! RIP Mr Bryan, und vielen Dank.
I am very sorry to learn that Mr Bryan has passed away. He taught me French in Wesley for four years in the 1970s and, thanks to his wonderful teaching, I went on to study French and became a French teacher myself.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Thank you for your patience in trying to teach me German. You were a kind man with your own unique sense of humour. Rest easy. G
Ernest taught me German at Wesley in the early 80s and I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I used German as a summer student worker in Germany and was so grateful for his good teaching. He had a sense of humour that some students missed, but I think I caught it. I was fond of him. I remember the word "schmeckt" and the phrase "ja, schmeckt!", meaning yes, this tastes good! Forty years later, I sometimes say "ja, schmeckt" and think of Mr. Bryan.
