A very popular work colleague in Eircom back in the day and a good neighbour and friend over the years. He was a great servant of St Judes G.A.A since the clubs foundation and a staunch supporter of the Royal county. His reminiscing and stories of times past always left one in a upbeat mood that had you looking forward to the next encounter. May his soul Rest in Peace.

Very sad to hear of Ernest’s passing. He gave so much to St Jude’s GAA club. As a boy in late 70s/ early 80s I remember him with fondness, because of his enthusiasm in terms of getting teams up and running, and his encouragement and patience towards all the kids. He was alway kind with his words to me and my younger brother, Brendan.
Gone, but never forgotten— a true gentleman and legend. If there is no GAA club in heaven, there will be one soon. Deepest condolences to all of Ernest’s friends and loved ones. Ar Dheis De go raibh a ainm dilis — Rest in Peace.

A light has gone out in the Parish of St. Jude and in St. Jude’s GAA club.
Ernie as we all called him ,has gone to his eternal rest. He was an energy and a force in St. Jude’s and he’ll never be forgotten. He had that lovely way of connecting with people. He listened and he asked questions and he had a great sense of humour.
Our deepest sympathy to Tina, Máire, Nóirín, Deirdre and Gerard. I know your hearts are broken but he was your treasure for so many years and there was so much genuine love between all of you.

We first met in '80's on Monday mornings as part of parish team to
count the previous day's Mass offerings. He was always full of fun
and it was a pleasure to bump into him in following years and have
a word. He has left a legacy to be proud of in St Jude's parish.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I remember Ernest from when I was a nurse in the Adelaide Hospital and I met him again at the harvest festival a few years ago in Dunshaughlin. He was a lovely man. I have many fond memories of how he entertained us with his stories.

Our sympathy to Christina and family on the death of your husband/father we first met Ernest on the Green in Orwell where he supervised the young boys and where he and a few other locals got St Judes GAA club going. I have incredibly fond memories of playing for the very first St. Judes Team back in the mid 1970's when Ernie was one of our mentors and one of the founding fathers of St. Judes, along with my own father Eamonn, Con Lehane and Seamus Dolan (there were probably more but memory fails). He was a true legend of St. Judes. May he Rest in Peace.

Heartfelt condolences to Tina, Maire, Noirin, Deirdre, Ger and the extended Kenny family on the passing of Ernie. He was an absolute gentlemen and a true gael, always full of chat about football.

I’ll always treasure the memories of being a young 7-year-old on the green in Orwell. Myself, Ger and James with our Dads, future planning for a GAA Club.

The early days of cake sales in the butchers shop after mass were used to fund start up Club costs, indeed for years to come it was outside the shops where Ernie would hold court chatting to people.

I can still remember calling up to Ernie’s for the “club match ball” — the one and only ball we had. It says it all about those early days, and how far the club has come since.

Ernie, Seamus and my own Dad were at the heart of it all. Without their vision and dedication, St Jude’s wouldn’t be the great Club it is today.

I’m very grateful for the support and encouragement Ernie gave me as a young lad, it meant more than he probably ever knew.

He’ll be looking down with pride, watching his beloved Jude’s continue to grow.

Christina and family I was so sorry to hear of Ernests’ passing. Another founding member of St. Jude’s GAA Club gone home to God. I have fond memories of when my Dad (Jack Boland) was sent up to Orwell shops he would literally be gone for hours! On his return we’d ask what kept you and it was always “I bumped into Ernest” Two old men having the chats outside SuperValu.

It was with deep sadness i learned of the passing of ernest ...he is the last link of his family in dunshaughlin the place of his birth ..and am glad he is comming to be laid to rest with his ancestors as we are closely related through the o' reilly's...#may he rest in eternal peace

A true gentleman and a legend in our area of St Judes. He was a joy to meet whether it was in the church, the shops, at a match or the races the chat always went back to St Judes GAA club (of which he was a founder member) it was a very proud moment for him when his granddaughter captained St Judes to an All Ireland junior football title.
He was a true Meath man and a great lover of horse racing and always prepared to share a few tips.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilage of knowing him.
