Ester had a lovely long life but still sad to hear she has died. I knew Ester from about the age of 6. The Shaws, Jones's Halligans and Kearns families go back a long way, also my sister in Law Olive was married to Jacks brother Michael. My father Jack Shaw was the Garda Sergeant stationed on Rathvilly from 1934 to 1039 , betwen the barracks and Kearns house was Halligans Garage, my dad was a widower who married Molly Halligan in 1935,, Mrs Kearns and her sister were mothers best friends. Daddy had 5 children , the girls Olive, Dorrie and Marie were same age as Ester and Peg so they all played together. The memories were nevet forgotten. We moved to Mountmellick in Laois, Ester and Peg were sent as Boatders to St Mary's College in Mountmellick, it was next door to the Barracks our girls were there as day students so friendships resuumed. My uncle Joe would drive up Mrs Kears, Peter and Ciss to visit and all would be in our house. Also my dad would get permission for them to come into us on Sundays. Ester and Jack moved to Chicago but their love of Rathvilly and Kill nevet deminished. MRS Kearns wrote to her and Ciss every week.
My sincere sympathy goes to Esters family and to their uncles Peter and Malachy and all the extended family.
