Eugene Dunne

I was very shocked and saddened to only hear of Eugene's passing yesterday evening via another architect. I worked with Eugene in the early 2000s on proposals for Connolly and enjoyed the time immensely. Apart from one or two more accidental meetings I had not seen or heard much since and regret now that we won't meet again. May he rest in peace.

Eugene was a gentleman and a generous soul. Worked for him many years ago and he was always full of encouragement and advice during my early years starting out in the building industry. He will be sadly missed.

I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Eugene, I had the pleasure of working with him professionally, he was always a gentleman and had a great demeaor about him. My sincere condolences to the whole family.

Eugene, a total gentleman. A stellar schoolmate in Newbridge College. It would surprise many who knew him later to know he could be a classic ‘messer’ in class.
We won a talent competition in 2nd year together. Eugene on guitar, and me on the dulcid tones. He was strategic, he figured we’d win ‘cus everyone else would be really crap. He was right.
He was centre on our Junior Cup Team. He got a great intercept near the end against Castleknock and off he went. He was good over 20 metres but this was 70. He was like a cartoon, the legs were whizzing round but he was running on the spot. Got caught with 5 yards to go. We lost. He blamed the quality of the refectory food for that.
Eugene was a keen golfer, figured I needed a bit of ‘upper class’ sport as a spectator at Milltown Golf Club for the Club Orange Pro-Am. As we stood at the side of the fairway on the 18th he neglected to inform me that “FORE” means “Duck….and Fast”. A wayward tee shot from Christy Greene enlarged my temple considerably that day.
Lives took different directions, but every time we met his great smile and gentle wit would bring all the fun back. Yvonne and family, you have lost a brilliant human being. Remembering him everyday will lift your soul.
Rest easy Eugene, I was blessed you crossed my life. MQ x

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Eugene's early passing. As a student colleague and business partner of Eugene we enjoyed many good times together as the Practice developed. Only recently I enjoyed the pleasure of playing with Eugene on the golf course. He could always be relied upon to come in below 10 under par - even though he hadn't played for 9 months! Eugene was a talented architect and with his recently deceased friend and partner, Jackie Reynolds, made a significant contribution to Dublin's modern architecture.
