We will all miss Gene very much. His decades of service in radio with CRY and soccer with Youghal United were remarkable, along with all the other work he did helping people out.
I was very lucky to have known him through radio for many years, where his knowledge in all sports and music was second-to-none. He was the best person to start off alongside. Those days following Youghal United to the quarter-finals of the FAI Intermediate Cup and into the FAI Cup, all those Ballycotton 10s and the Emer Casey Races, all those chats on Monday mornings and Friday evenings and the trips all over to find new rollercoasters are days I will always remember.
He will be missed by everybody. Condolences to the Crotty family on this very sad loss.

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words about my great friend. Gene was everything that is good in this world, courteous, polite, intelligent, and very witty. He was an exceptional guy to work with whether it was discos,Youghal Utd or CRY.
It has been my privilege to have known Gene for over 40 years and now that he’s gone it has left a huge void in my life and the lives of everyone who knew him. To his family I say thank you for the great life you afforded Gene and he was always grateful for that. I say goodbye my great friend and hope you are now in heavenly peace. May you Rest In Peace Eugene.

In those days we would see him passing with a bag of footballs over his shoulder and after the match he would have a bag of Jerseys and shorts for the wash.
